True. However, mistakes can happen, and the system does not always work as designed.

OP, please update us when you find out what is going on. Thanks.

Yes, that is why I said it was worth looking into. However, he could have a 3,000-4,000 sq ft home which would help raise that heating bill but he hasn't told us anything about that.

He should also change the air filters in the home, especially if they look dirty upon inspection.

this is true; we never dealt with heat pumps in WI so took a bit down here to understand how they worked, how not to turn the heat up too much at one time, etc (and when it says "Aux" it means the electric heating elements are on as well, $$$).

For any comparisons, we have a newer home about 2900 sq ft (mostly a ranch and dont heat the upper rooms past 62) and our elec bill just came in at $200. Knowing the pump was running a fair amount this month, lights on more, etc but it was $50 higher then last year same time.

Our two story, 2300 sf house built in 2003 runs us about $160 a month both electric bill and gas for heat. (We use the budget plans). We are a family of five and all of the appliances are as old as the house with the exception of the hot water tank (gas) that we just changed out. (Last year I got $130 back from the gas company on our budget plan, but so far this year, I am $46 higher than last, mostly due to the colder winter so far).

I should mention that we are home all day. My wife home schools and at least two computers are running all day. TV runs a little at night.
