This thought comes to mind as I'm having my carpet steam cleaned today...one thing that comes to mind that anyone should be leary of when buying new construction here is the carpet. The carpet used by these builders is usually very cheap grade and is also installed very quickly; therefore, it is not stretched properly. The carpet throughout my house is in need of re-stretching...some even in rooms with little or no traffic.

The installers were just in a huge hurry to get it installed when the place was built and the quality of the carpet isn't that great. And it's not just my home...I've seen the same in other homes built by other builders in the area. It's a common problem. The technician from the carpet cleaners confirmed this much for me today as well.

If you can swing it, I'd opt for wood floors or better quality carpet.

So true. I'm never having carpet anywhere except for bedrooms.. only wood and tile.

Our last house had carpet in all living areas. That convinced me that carpet is not meant for our "lifestyle". In fact, with two two year olds, it was disposable.

Our new home has wood in all living areas, and we love it! So far, it's everything we hoped it would be.

Default National Track Builders

I have been in the building business for a while now...and what I want you to know about National Track builders like the ones being listed...KB,Ryan, Cato, etc. is that they are going to build your house to the minimal specifactions by the county permits dept. and you are going to get the cheapest grade of material in your house. I know that it looks beautiful when is brand new and shiny...but speaking from experience.....I live in one of these homes....go with a local builder who takes pride in his work and is not just sticking a development in to make a few $ and getting out of town.

I couldn't agree more about Ryan Homes. My wife and I are building a Middleburg plan in Park Ridge also in Simpsonville. What a great experience... so impressed with their sales agents and quality of workmanship. You do pay for the quality, but we think it is worth the peace of mind in knowing that others appreciate quality and not just the lowest price around.

We had a wonderful building experience with Americas Home Place from the design stage right on through the building completed process. You find your lot and they can build your own design or one of their floor plans or let you modify and change one of their many plans. Very skilled superintendants.

RestedTraveler,

So funny because my husband and I bought a Torrey built home, about 7 yrs old (we are second owners) and have the exact same issue with our carpet!! Mostly in the upstairs hall and Master Bedroom. We also have bad windows - they are fogged like the seals are broken. I made an online warranty claim to DR Horton but have no response in weeks. Don't know if DR or Torrey is the one to contact since I don't know the situation when the house was built. Have you seen or heard about any problems with the windows? Any suggestions on how to chase down the proper warranty people?? Thanks!!

Anybody heard of Aho or Tower Homes? Are they reputable builders? How is the quality of their homes?

We might be moving to Anderson, SC and these seem to be the ones with most of the development.

thanks.

I have a Ryan home in Fort Mill (planning to relocate to Greenville area) I am not so impressed. Basic cheap tract home overall but they get buy as cheap as possible on flooring, plumbing, etc. I bought the house used and the home inspector did not pick up grading issues and two poorly installed toilets.

Default What about Lennar Homes?

Does anyone has an opinion on Lennar Homes? They have very nice homes near Anderson in US81.
