It is a real Sephora, but is tiny and I can never find the products I want there. A freestanding (around 5000 square foot store is what i want).
I had been told shortly before the ONE development announcement for downtown that Sephora would be one of the tenants there. The press conference happened and they were not one of the retailers mentioned. Phase 2 press conference is coming up, with additional retailer announcements to occur. Could they be part of phase 2?
Excuse my ignorance, but is Ulta that different from Sephora? There are a few of the former in the metro area (what others call the Upstate).
Even though there are many brands that overlap (Smashbox, Urban Decay, Anthony Logistics, etc.), there are many that are only available at Sephora.
Also, they do have items that are Sephora exclusive. Sephora also has better customer service. Ulta is nice and the most of the people who work there are nice, but Sephora's beauty experts are much more knowledgeable. Ulta's men's selection has greatly improved over the past few months, but it was pretty picked over and only offered a limited amount of most products. There is an Ulta in Asheville opening in a few weeks, and I'm excited for that, but it really isn't as special as a Sephora. One of my favorite brands is Clinique. Ulta has a very limited selection of men's items and has their fragrances (which I really don't like anyway), but every full-line Sephora (not inside JCPenney) has pretty much the full line. I'm glad that Ulta has what it has, but as far as Clinique goes, I didn't see any of the Clinique men's line that I like there. They also have many skincare products (moisturizers, cleansers, etc.) that work really well which are sold at Sephora but not Ulta. Even though Clinique products are available at counters in department stores, Sephora's selection is "open" (no counter, shop yourself), and you get Sephora points. The only reason to go to a Clinique counter (if you have a Sephora too) is for more information and during bonus time.
When I read this thread & saw downtown mentioned as the location of a standalone Sephora, all I could think of is the one in Paris. It is ... it is ... it is AMAZING! You enter at street level and then go down to the 2nd level, but it is all open & airy. I've not been to a Sephora in any US urban centers, but if they are like Paris this would be an incredible addition to downtown.
BTW - are there any plans for Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie in Greenville? I do most of my shopping online, but those are stores that my dear daughter can drag me to & I somewhat enjoy. What about Sur la Table?
