Default Upscale areas

What are the most "upscale" areas around Greenville, preferably North? We are looking for the best schools in the area- which ones would they be?

Thanks!

What are you looking to spend on a home? Also, how old are your children?

I am looking to spend in the mid $300's and have 2 children (age 2 and 4). Jobs are not an issue.

Ok, thanks. I put this in another thread, but I'll repeat here. My recommendation is to use this website Coldwell Banker Caine : Real Estate : Homes in Greenville, Spartanburg and Upstate South Carolina (SC)

Scroll down to where you select the high school and select Riverside. This is another part of Greer, slightly south of the Greer High School district, but contains arguably the best schools in Greenville.

Neighborhoods with schools in the mid $300's include the following:
River Downs II
River Oaks
Sugar Creek
Sugar Mill
Pelham Falls
Brushy Meadows
Thornhill
Ascot
Riverwood Farms
Spring Hill
Hammet Pond
Baucom Park
Coleman Shoals

I was going to say the Cliffs, but that is wayyyy out of your price range.

g-man, not necessarily so. We were shopping for property most of last year, and there are some lots in Cliffs that are less than 40k. You could then meet architectural minimums in this price range.

RC gives a good list above.

I wouldn't restrict my search to only the Riverside school district. I'm a firm believer that a well educated child is a product of parenting more so than the school. It is wise to not get into the handful of poor schools in the area, but all others are pretty competitive with each other.

Tony, I agree, but it sounded like Soon to be South wanted to be in the Greer area. So JL Mann, Mauldin, Hillcrest and others are probably not good choices.

Thanks everyone!! We have family who live in Rutherfordton, NC, so we wanted to be fairly close to them (less than an hour) which is why we thought Greer would be a nice location, other than Spartanburg. We are also looking at Fort Mill/Tega Cay or Clover. We come down in August to check out all 4 areas and see what we think. Thanks for all the advice and input!!

Greer would be a fine choice. With proximity to Rutherfordton being a priority, it might actually take longer to get to them from some parts of Greer than it would from some other parts of Greenville that at first glance seem further. If you select a place along the I85 corridor, you will have an interstate drive to your friends. If you select a location on the north side of Greer, you will have no choice but to take two lane backroads.

Greenville county roads are chopped up. There are a few major roads that keep going in the same direction for a distance. If you're not on one of these, you can have a little drive just to get heading in the right direction. For instance, we're near the intersection of Hwy25 and Hwy290. We have a straight shot to downtown Greenville and a straight shot over to Greer, but there is nothing that gets us, directly, to anything between the two.
