We tried to book a cabin at Table Rock Park for a week in November and the direct line informed us there were no vacancies for that time period.

Thinking we were out of luck I began to hang up when the reservations rep suggested checking with ReserveAmerica.com

I did so and was booked into the cabin we wanted within minutes, the same cabin that was "unavailable" a minute earlier. What the park rep failed to do is offer us part of the week we wanted, which we wound up doing through ReserveAmerica.

We would have preferred a weeklong stay in one place but half the week is better than nothing but if you call the direct park line they apparently don't inform you of any half-week or open days.

So if you want to stay at any of the parks bypass the direct line and check with ReserveAmerica instead.

Thanks for this great info, carolinadreamin! That is a great help for everyone looking for a short getaway nearby.

For any RVers, I highly recommend in addition to the State Parks that you check out Palmetto Cove, which is located in an incredibly beautiful valley in northern Greenville County, between Table Rock, Caesar's Head, and Jones Gap State Parks. Be sure to print a copy of the brochure (High Res. (broken link)|Low Res. (broken link)) as well.

Depending on which cabin you're in, some of their cabins are real hand-hewn log cabins built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. We're going to be there for a week at the end of this month. The cabins are very rustic (and isolated) but clean, with linens and kitchen stuff. Bear in mind there is no TV, and not even a cell phone signal there (which to me is a large part of the charm). Table Rock is a gorgeous place! Have a great trip!

Thanks, I'm so excited to go there and won't miss a TV set at all.

I am crossing my fingers to see change of leaves!

I think you'll be a little late for leaf color in the mountains. You might catch it down in Greenville. The neat thing about leaf color is that it gradually comes down in elevation as temps drop. It starts at higher elevevations in early October and peaks in Greenville in early November. So there is about a month window that you can catch color somewhere within a 2 hour drive of Greenville.
