If you are looking for a contemporary atmosphere, you might want to try the contemporary service at First Presbyterian in downtown Greenville. It's at 11:00 in the gym. The sermon is the same as the one in the traditional service but the music, dress, and format is contemporary. If you want a traditional service, I attend Westminster Presbyterian on Augusta Rd. For the next year we are meeting in the gym while our sanctuary is being enlarged. It's a good sized church (not too big or too small) that is very open and friendly.

Brookwood and Redemption are mega-churches just to warn you if that's not what you're looking for.

Check out SpringWell Church in Taylors! Great contemporary music, come as you are, people are very friendly, Lots of younger families and couples. You will feel comfortabe at SpringWell. Awesome praise and worship, with Bible based sermons. SpringWell is a growing church, not too big, but not too small. Pastor Scott is very down to earth, very real with a message that will touch your heart each week. We've been attending Springwell for 6-7 years. You'll love it!

If you want to try a large church with a contemporary service try Taylors First Baptist Church at the 9:00 A.M service. I am not sure what you mean by liberal but I will promise you that you will hear great music and a message from Dr. Frank Page, President of the Southern Baptist Convention, that is focused on the Word of Christ. I guarantee you that you will be challenged by the music and the message. It is a blessing to be a member at this wonderful praying and mission focused church. Give us a try and let me know what you think. One way to check out our Sunday morning services without actually visiting us is to go on taylorsfbc.org at 9:00 for the live service. Our 10:30 traditional service is also live on-line. You can also look at our many other ministries and get back copies of Dr. Page's sermons on this website. Check us out. You will not be disappointed.

Default Possible churches

While yes, Redemption is very large and can be intimidating, I would HIGHLY recommend giving it at least one try. You can check out sermons by going to
RWOC.

Other churches in the area that might be a good match would be Praise Cathedral in Greer on Brushy Creek Rd. and Christian Assembly in Greer on Wade Hampton. I wish you the best in finding a church home. It is so important for your continued spiritual growth.

I had forgotten about Springwell on Wade Hampton. Very family oriented and Biblically sound.

Went there a few times but I'm very, very leery of the whole "Word of faith Movement" despite being a charismatic. Something's a little off with the gospel there. How one can refer to themselves as "apostle" when the Bible is very specific on the definition, is well.... IMHO, of course.

Since you are younger, I'll reply.
My fiance and I go to Mt. Pisgah Baptist on Hwy. 88 in Anderson County, not too far from Marathon so maybe you can try it sometime (Wren community, where I teach).

The main reason I'd invite you is because we have a great Sunday School class of young people, anywhere from around 21yrs to 35yrs. I went to the church for a while without going to Sunday School and didn't know what I was missing. The class is very friendly and they really care about each other. We also like to get together pretty often for pizza, soup supper, etc. The main service is more traditional, no big bands or anything, but I really feel challenged each week by the message.

My fiance is 22 and I'm 27. If you'd like to go, let me know; I'll be happy to show you around.

Bill

Well Sonrise, you are right, the Bible is very specific about the definition of "apostle" and it simply means one who is sent. More specifically it refers to one who is the first to do something. I don't understand why people get so hung up on that "title" as the scriptures specifically state, "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers," (Eph. 4:11) Have we gotten so far away from the five-fold ministry that there shouldn't be prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers either? If that is the case then there is something wrong with YOUR gospel.

The problem I see in the church today is that people have been told that being in poverty is a "holy" place. The Word of God has been so watered down that to most it has lost its power and is of no real consequence. But as for me I refuse to believe in a God that wants his people to constantly struggle, never have enough, and live in complete poverty. I choose instead to believe in a God that desires for us to prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

If there is something wrong with preaching the UNCOMPROMISING Word of God, then Redemption is definitely guilty. There is no apology for preaching God's Word as it is intended and that is exactly what Apostle Ron does. You may not like the style of service, but to say that something is "off with the gospel there" is immature and baseless. The bottom line is that in each service no less than 40 people are getting saved, lives are being transformed, and people are finding freedom from the chains of sin and death that have held them captive for too long.

The three-fold purpose of Redemption is to break down walls of religion, destroy racism, and raise the standard of living for the people in the Greenville area. I don't know of any other church in the area that has those goals in mind. While I understand that Redemption's people are often perceived as radical in their approach to lifting up the name of Jesus, there is no getting around the fact they are a people passionate about spreading the good news of Jesus to the lost and hurting in Greenville.

Be blessed and think carefully about what judgment you pass on your fellow brothers and sisters in Jesus.
