Hi,
I will be moving to the Greenville area sometime this year. I am concerned about the general attitude of the people there as far a interracial couples are concerned. Will there be problems with this? My daughter and her boyfriend will be moving with us and I do not want to see them hurt through plain ignorance and hatred.

As a general rule, interracial couples do get their share of stares, but no outright ostracizing.

I was going to be quiet, but have decided to chime in. Greenville is in a csa of over 1.2 million people, so it shocks me when folks feel it necessary to ask this. It also has a high rate of transplants moving in. That answers a lot doesn't it? If that's not enough, how about I'm black and was married interracially for 10+ years, and still date interracial? I'm also raising 2 children from the marriage, with help from family. Greenville is progressive, that's why you're looking at it.

That flat out isn't true. It's not an issue here. Period.

ignorance and hatred?? why does it have to be taken to that level just because someone might not agree with dating outside of your race? seriously people, political correctness has gone a little overboard...

Never said it was. But yes, mixed couples do get "the look" at times. To think otherwise is plain foolish.

I've never had an issue. Just because Greenville is in the south doesn't make it klan land.

It's such a non-issue that I find this thread laughable.

I have no idea what Greenville is about. I am currently living in Florida with my family. Seriously looking to move there as soon as we sell our home. It is wonderful to hear from you about this first hand. Makes me feel so much better about moving there. I know I cannot control how people think and act but I would hate to move to an area that is still living with the hatred and ignorance from the past. Again thank you.
Michele
