UB - have you tried their new dinner offerings? The goulash is fantastic!
No, but I just heard about it (on FB). I LOVE the goulash at Addy's downtown, so I'm sure BPF's is great, too!

I'm not much of a sweets or cake kind of guy, but I recently had a really awesome piece of cake from the Bakery Off Augusta. The cake looked at first like it had way too much icing (and that overwhelming sweetness that usually comes with most icing). But this was a rich, silky smooth cream cheese icing, over a perfectly moist cake. Really good. Two thumbs up!

PhotogGal, I also like Stax's Bakery.

I haven't tried either of these other places, but they create interesting custom cakes for various occasions:

If you like Carrot Cake, the ones Brick Street bakes are incredible!

You should try Nation's Bakery in Lyman on Hwy 29 just go straight up Wade Hampton toward Spartanburg. My roommate learned to be a professional baker through Strossner's and He was extremely impressed and rated them a 10 over Strossner's.

Don't they provide desserts and/or baked goods to some of Greenville's better restaurants? I've heard a good bit about this place - may need to check them out!

The absolute best cake I have ever had is the Sweet Potato Cake from Brick Street Cafe on Augusta. It is wonderful, go there and try a slice and if you like it order a whole one for a special occasion, you won't be disappointed!

You have to go to Hendersonville to find a real bakery. McFarland's Bakery on Main St. in Hendersonville is worth the trip.

I have gotten cake from Strossner's a couple of times. Very disappointing. While the cakes themselves are beautiful, the "cake" part doesn't have much depth in its richness, and I can taste (and feel) shortening in the buttercream frosting. Not a true buttercream. Have yet to try Gretchen's, but I am looking forward to it.
