I think you've hit the nail on the head. I don't understand the idea of trying to downplay the wonderful qualities about your city - to the point that you mislead people - simply because you are afraid that "transplants" will come in and change things. Oh well, to each his own...

Some people find Spartanburg to be what they are looking for, but the majority by far are locating in the greater Greenville area, for obvious reasons. Greenville is larger and has much more to offer in nearly every aspect of living. Greenville also has a superior cultural attraction with its vibrant downtown arts and entertainment, not to mention its growing culinary destination with over 80 restaurants and many more on the way. Greenville is the economic, financial, social, cultural, retail, entertainment, and tourist hub of the Upstate region. While living in Greenville you have virtually no need to go anywhere else for anything you could want, and it is a short drive to Atlanta and Charlotte for some of the "big city" options you can't find in SC (yet). Greenville has an awesome array of beautiful public spaces for people of all ages, most of which are linked together by numerous sidewalks, paths, and trails. If you love living in a pleasant, growing, urban small city, I recommend Greenville over Spartanburg. If you are unsure which place may be for you, then you really should visit both cities to find out. Spartanburg has lots to offer, though not nearly as much for most people.
All that you say is correct BUT with all those ammenities comes lots of traffic and crowds. Greenville grew faster than its infrastructure could accomodate and it is very apparent when traveling on 385, Woodruff Rd, and other high traffic areas.

So, the next best thing is find a more rural area in Spartanburg County having access to Greenville by simply traveling down I85.

I have lived in Greenvile (off Pelham Rd, Greenville County), Simpsonville (off Woodruff Rd, Greenville County), Greer (near the airport, Spartanburg County but closer to Greenville than Spartanburg) and presently in Roebuck (off Walnut Grove Rd, Spartanburg County).

The first three on the list have become very populated - access to the , grocery stores, mall and popular shops requires careful planning to avoid heavy traffic.

Our present location is rural and all our shopping is done in Spartanburg...less traffic...easy access...peaceful.

When I moved here from Greenwood in 2004 I had a choice between the 2. I chose Greenville because it feels more modern and has a lot more. Also I like the mindset of its leaders.
