I would love to live near the lakes & mountains. who wouldn't?

The international airport is in Greer, almost exactly 1/2 way between Greenville and Spartanburg. Travelers Rest is a lot of stop and go driving to get into Greenville. I have lived on the West side of Spartanburg (slightly lower cost of living + great schools) and done the 25 minute shoot down I-85 commute to Greenville for years.

Know your history
A few facts,
Spartanburg is considered to be the most Cosmo. Small to midsize metro area in the U.S. Sptbg has more out of country investment than anywhere in the U.S. We have by far the best public schools in the region. We have 6 of the best collages and Uni. in the country. We have the best med. care within 300 miles. Rated #1 for Heart, Cancer, (Orthopedics, The Steadmen Hawkins Clinic is the best in the world.)
We are ranked the 46 best city in North America by Cities and places rated. Greenville in 94. A few years ago we had a problem witha drug gang from Boston and the Murder rate went crazy for a few years.athat is now back to normal. This year we have had about 7 or 8 murders for a metro area of 300,000 people. Greenville is headed toword 20 with only about 25% more people. I can live anywhere I want and would choose Spartanburg everyday and everyway. Futhermore this is not about putting Greenville down. I could not care less what happens in Greenville. Greenville has done a good job changing thier image from what it used to be. So enjoy yourself. Just know that most of the people here are not interested in Greenville.

I'm glad you enjoy where you live because really that is what is important...
But to say that "most of the people here are not interested in Greenville" is simply not true! A vast majority of these post are about Greenville. You state yourself that Greenville's population is 25% greater. And the claim about Spartanburg being the most Cosmo.... I'm not too sure about that, I think Greenville is head and shoulders above Spartanburg. Just visit the downtown areas of both cities.

This is incorrect info. Greenville's metro is 601,986. Thats double the size of Spartanburg. Greenville is the epicenter of the upstate. Greenville also has grown the most by numbers adding over 20,000 in just a year. Spartanburg is far behind that. Have pride in your city, but be truthful.

Where are you getting your statistics from? According to the census bureau, Greenville County had a population of a little over 417,000 in 2006 (this very site has Greenville proper population sitting at a little over 58K). Plus, according to the census, the average houshold size in Greenville is 2.49 people where as Spartanburg is 2.53.
I think people tend to over use the term "Greenville metro" just a tad, unless metro equals from the Georgia border to Columbia.

"Greenville metro" would certainly include portions of Anderson County (Powdersville), Pickens County (Easley), and Spartanburg County (Greer). To deny such would make little sense.

I agree. But then couldn't Spartanburg claim Greer (since it is technically in their county)? All I'm saying is that some people tend to inflate the population figures to make the area seem bigger then it really it. There's nothing wrong with living in a city of 58,000 or a county of 400,000.

The City of Greer (government) is actually considered to be located in Greenville County, although it does overlap the county line. The main difference is that Greer is much more physically connected to Greenville (thus part of the metro) than it is physically connected to Spartanburg. You can consider it part of the Spartanburg metro, but that would be a stretch.

Perhaps, however the numbers may just as easily be under-inflated. That number is not far from the truth either way.

I didn't make my numbers up. They are from the census bureau.

The MSA consists of Greenville, Pickens, and Laurens Counties. Nothing about the MSA population that motoenterprises stated is wrong seeing how it's the amount done by US Census. Greenville County also has a population of over 428,000 now according to the US Census.
