Carolina Sports Thoughts: Rumor: BMW looking at the Charleston area
That's one of the funniest things I've read in a while. The article even mentioned "moving everything from Spartanburg there..."

I can tell you that is not going happen. First of all, had BMW wanted to be in Charleston (near a port) they would have built the plant there instead of Spartanburg. Plant Spartanburg is one of BMW's #1 producers and things have just recently started to get on a roll here. Not to mention they spent $750M to add the X3 line and are spending another $900 million here. 90% of BMW suppliers are near the plant.

There was some talk about building another US plant in Tennesse, but that fell through. Mexico is on the drawing board, but on hold due to the economy. Brazil is also on the drawing board, but Mexico would probably get the plant first.

There is another thread in this forum about the Charleston Port building an in-land port near Plant Spartanburg in the future.
