Half Moon is a chain store itself, with locations in Charleston, Columbia, Gville so if you really want local you should go to Sunrift in Travelers Rest
C'mon guys - let's not split hairs here! There's a HUGE difference between Bass Pro Shops and Half Moon Outfitters... I'm sure Half Moon and Sunrift each have their own healthy shares of the local market.
Really glad to hear about REI in Greenville! I agree that they are a perfect tenant to fill the empty Circuit City space adjacent to Whole Foods. Very nice tenant mix there!
As for Bass Pro Shops, I would definitely like to see them in Greenville but not on Woodruff Road. They belong a little farther out where they can have plenty of land along an interstate. They are best suited to anchor a new development and transform an entire interstate exit - not add to one of the busiest interstate exits in the state.

I doubt there are any viable options remaining for Bass Pro Shops to locate a store on Interstate 85 in Greenville County. Locating in Anderson County (Exit 40 - SC 153) or Spartanburg County (Exit 56 - SC 14, Exit 60 - SC 101, Exit 63 - SC 290) as remaining options. The planned developments at SC 14 stalled out, and is doubtful that land will see any action for years.
[b]Recreational Equipment Inc., the outdoor gear and apparel retailer, has leased space at The Point development along Woodruff Road, a spokeswoman for the chain said.
Spokeswoman Bethany Hawley said in an email to Greenvilleonline.com that REI has signed a lease for space next to Whole Foods Market and would provide more details later.

I thought Greenville lagged behind Charleston and Columbia in retail. It was years before Greenville got Target or anyone else with a presense in those cities.
BPS should build their new store on the Anderson side of Greenville. All of the Upstate's largest and busiest lakes are located west of Greenville County. The Powdersville/Piedmont area makes sense, in my opinion.

Charleston is kind of its own animal - due to the "old money" and tourists & affluent retirees, Charleston tends to have "nicer" retail than most cities its size.
But Greenville definitely blows Columbia out of the water as far as retail and restaurants go. Apple Store? Greenville, not Columbia. Trader Joe's? Greenville, not Columbia (or Charleston). One of Belk's "A" department stores? Greenville, not Columbia. Etc, etc, etc.

LOL.
So much retail found in Greenville and Charleston that has bypassed Columbia.....Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Apple, Pottery Barn, Aldo, J Crew, Costco, etc, etc. now REI.
