This annual showcase of urban farms, edible gardens and energy efficiency in Greenville will happen tomorrow (Sat.), May 7, 2011, 9am-5pm. It is hosted by Greenville Organic Foods Organization and presented by Whole Foods Market and Piedmont Natural Gas. Media sponsors are Edible Upcountry, Natural Awakenings, and Fete.
The 5th annual Upstate Farm Tour (more regional than the Greenville Urban Tour) is happening this weekend. If you want more information, check with the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.
Just completed two days of the Upstate Farm tour and it was....WONDERFUL! Of the 6 farms we were able to visit, we gathered helpful information from each one. I especially recommend checking out the Patient Wait Turkey farm in Piedmont and Parsons Produce in Clinton. Of course I love Whole Foods and the farmers' markets but going behind the scenes to meet the growers and gain tips for our own small farm was an amazing benefit. Many of the farms featured on tour have farm visit days throughout the year. I can't rave about this one enough..... check it out guys and tell me which subforum I should visit to connect to more local farming sources. These farmers truly impressed me......

Sounds great! Furman University also has a ¼ acre organic farm (http://www2.furman.edu/academics/sustainability/ForStudents/Pages/FurmanFarm.aspx - broken link) where students and community volunteers are able to obtain hands-on education in sustainable agriculture. They also have a farm stand on campus at the Cliffs Cottage.
Thanks, SL. I'll put it on the list. PC also has something similar, I've heard.
