I admire their will to promote the City of Greenville, but it is amazing that they used a very outdated photo of downtown. There are a few places they didn't mention and at least a few others are planned to open soon.

most of these businesses replaced other businesses that had closed or moved.. not that this is not a good story but a bit misleading

That is the first thing I thought of when I saw this news story. Nevertheless, there is lots of promising action going on downtown!

I look at it this way:

Having other retailers/restaurants replace the ones that closed is much better than having them sit empty. It shows downtown continues to thrive and is a place local, regional, and national establishments want to locate in.

As far as I know, the Trappe Door, and the Beer Exchange are completely new, not simply replacing another store in the same space. Am I wrong on that one?

Who cares if they replaced something as long as it's not empty? That's called change and thinking forward. That's what we do.

sure, it's great to replace closed businesses, but that's simply maintaining not moving forward, if a business closes and a new business opens in the same spot that is not growth... still plenty of open areas for real growth. Again I'm not cutting Greenville down I'm happy it's growing but this article was a bit to rah rah... still plenty of room to grow. The Anthropolgie deal and Certus bank headquarters that's great.. but some art school that is probably not going to be here in a couple years and the revolving door of new eating establishments doesn't excite me the same.

It's doing plenty of growing, and maintaining as you call it; is a big part of that.
