Re:
Ignorance can be blissful. Black Folk earned a right to explain to close minded people that forgot to include thier history in the books why they are proud of their heritage how they survived the most horrible incident in history "SLAVERY".

Greenville is great and I have lived in SC all my life. As per racial bias there does exist some in Greenville. But nowhere near what your trying to claim. Actually Greenville bends over backwards to try to accommodate the black population. It is ridiculous but true. I am white and never had a ticket dropped. I guess in Greenville your only guilty if your white. I guess using your terms I was DWW.
They are very forgiving of crimes committed by blacks. I guess that is their best attempts at racial harmony most likely they fear another LA riot would ensue if they didn't.
Hey don't get me wrong Greenville is not just biased in favor of blacks but the Spanish population as well. Greenville has become very overrun with illegals and the locals do very little to round them up and deport them. Worse the feds wont cooperate either to help send them home. From what I have heard they will not even pull over suspected illegals anymore.
They could raid the many businesses right now anyone from manufacturing plants to construction companies and round up loads of illegal immigrants but they wont.
Now before anyone says anything ridiculous like all Spanish people are not illegal. I am fully aware of the fact that there are many that are legal and decent citizens but they are getting a bad rap because of all the ones that are not decent law abiding citizens.
As per the whole flack about down town Greenville not being all that great for entertainment they routinely shut down Main st for the weekends to host huge parties as well as special events. And while they do have a small road servicing Main st they have built many parking garages around the area. So plenty of parking just not on main.
As for the comments about the educational system it does need to be fixed as it does not truly help to develop human potential and capitalize on peoples strong points. The whole point is supposed to be to help get the student ready for the work force or to run a business. But the truth is that they have loaded down the system with much more than need be. One such event is the fact that black history is forced upon the children of SC just to please the black population. Which is very discriminatory indeed. We don't have white only week or any other race that has their on special week dedicated just to them. Nor do we need it at all. Hey if you want to embrace other cultures do so on your own free time and your own dime at home.
Now as for the drop out rates and test scoring rates give credit where credit is due. It is a societal failure not a school problem. If you check into it you will find those that are having school problems or societal problems as well for that matter all trace back to their home environment. They get home and parents do little to nothing to help them with their schooling or make attempts at home after school to educate their children to make up for whatever short comings they feel are going on at school. Most of the problems I am sure you will find trace back to divorced parents or drugs and alcohol. And I am positive you would find this at any town USA not just Greenville.
Point of the whole post really boils down to this Greenville is Greenville not NYC or any other city for that matter. You either like it or you don't that is why everyone is free to move where ever they like. We actually have a growing population that agrees that Greenville is great.

Skyliner and all the rest of you, Cyber bully much? I think that The South has much to offer in general, but everyone is allowed to have an opinion. The Truth is that people need to know both sides of the story, Greenville is the perfect match for some people and the worst choice possable for others. The same as Knoxvillle Tn (which is a lovely little city, in my opinion) or Charlotte,or Atlanta,or NYC or LA or.... any where in the WORLD! What people need is other peoples input on what they like or dislike and why, So that they can make informed choices. I wish I had the chance to ask like minded people questions before I moved here,or even before I moved to Annapolis MD or any of the other moves that I have had in My life. I think the original post to this Thred was well written and well informed as to their unique and personal views. So Please people lets us not try to bully others into submission ,like a politician, but instead Let us Freely and POLITELY exchange our points of view to get a true picture of this place!
It is the best possible place to live for some and the worse choce for others, It depends on your criteria!

^^How about quit being a jerk and start saying some good things about the area instead of just trying to bash it all the time.

G-man is "a jerk" something good and Polite and helpful to others? NO!!!! Again People have many opinions, All ARE VALID to the open minded and educated. There are small minded, backwards people that are afraid of anyone else having an opinion. Which I am sure that you do not fall into that class of people, So I think that you must have not finished reading my last entry. ALL points are Valid, Greenvile is great for some and not right for others it depends on their criteria. What they want out of their life.!!!

^^Correct, but I think you should at least say some positive things about the area instead of bashing it all the time. If you don't like the area then why not move?

Aside from the atrocious typos (which we all are guilty of at times), I agree and would add that you can just as easily replace the name "Greenville" with any other city in the nation and then come to the same precise conclusion.

Wow I'm almost regretting accepting the job offer I got today! I'm moving to Simpsonville and have visited frequently because my daughter lives there. I agree that there is a lack of Latin cuisine and ingredients...I couldn't find Recao to make sofrito anywhere, but I have never felt any discrimnation. So if I understand you correctly my 16, 15 & 9 yr old are doomed to a life of crime, failing school & death by boredom? I want a better place to raise them than Hartford, CT but that doesn't sound like the case here.....

I hope that was intended as sarcasm... Your children will be just fine here, unless they have difficulty adjusting to a new environment.

Yes Skyliner is was mostly sarcasm but some real worry. In the original thread he talks pretty openly about seeing stabbings & fights etc. so you can appreciate my concern. I am relocating and of course their safely is top priority to me. I realize that the pace is a bit slower but that's ok...so what's the truth?
