I appreciate all of your input! I am considering moving to the Greenville area or perhaps a smaller town near that and just found this website last night. I have a friend who lives in Greenville and she has enouraged me to come to the area. I enjoy reading all of your responses both good and bad. I am in my 30's married and have 2 children under 6 and 2. I would like to hear some input on the family type situations if any. Thanks in Advance!

Start a new thread, please! This one is old and full of misleading negative comments from a few disgruntled residents.

Negative elements are found in every city, therefore I am not opposed to such discussion, as you may have noticed in previous threads. This thread is not a good one specifically because it has many, many false statements about Greenville and the Upstate.

People on drugs are stealing from anyone and they don't care what time of day it is or whether the area is populated or not. They usually carry guns and you'd better do as they say and give up anything they want. It is a huge daily problem. They have chained the atm machines and tried to drive away with them. They have accosted patrons of high end and low end hotels and motels day and night. They have robbed pharmacies on busy main streets just in the last couple of days in broad daylight. They highjack cars, kill whoever gets in their way and have even had shootouts in the mall in Spartanburg. It wasn't quite that bad when we first moved here but has progressed over the years to where it is not safe to do anything now and don't even think about walking in downtown Spartanburg to go to the resturants and stores. You may get robbed and beat up. If you subscribe to the Spartanburg Herald Journal you can read all about it. You can also read some of it on line although they do not post all the crime incidences in the online version. It is a huge drug problem and these people have no way to finace their drug use so they rob and kill.

You're very right the crime here is ridiculously high and the people who live here don't want to admit South Carolina is a bad place to live. The people here in upstate South Carolina hide their rudeness until you live here about a year and a half, and the education level is horrible. Plus more to add because people don't want to here the truth and the schools have a lack of time giving students diplomas. I don't blame you alot of people are going to move away from this prison place called South Carolina. P.S. flag me off this website again because I tell the real truth that people on here tells lies and trashy stories.

Well it sounds like you have not had a great time here and im sorry to hear that. SC is not perfect you are right. And yes some try to paint it too be that way.
But too call it prison and too say that for some reason people are nice here for a year then just turn on you. That too me just seems like maybe that is just something that happen to you.
As for crime goes you have crime every where you live that is just the fact of life. Unless you live in a perfect world that I don't know about. You learn what areas to stay out of as with any place. There is very few places here in greenville that I would not feel safe at. And I have been to pretty bad places. There is far from having ridiculously high crime here.
Again im sorry to hear you have had a hard time but it really just sounds like you have just meet some friends that turned out not likeing you after a year then you blame the entire state.

About the only thing I agree with in the above quote is that "people on here tells (sic) lies and trashy stories." Some do. A very, very few do tell lies. Most people on here are telling the truth.
I disagree with the ridiculously high crime claim and the rudeness charge and even the education charge.
SC is only a prison place for actual prisoners. No one else has to stay. On the City-Data demographic information page it shows that SC GREW by over 200,000 immigrants from around the country and other countries between 2000 and 2006. Some people left but a lot more found SC had what they wanted than not. Greenville County alone has grown by over 20,000 in the past 2 years according to census estimates. Most people clearly are happy with what they find here.
