Rochelle, whether or not you are everything you say (sorry, I for one am a bit doubtful based on conflicting evidence), I am confident that Greenville will welcome you any time you finally decide the city is worthy of your presence. The more I have read your posts (in this other thread as well) the more confused I become about your thought process. It is clearly not a typical mindset found here in Greenville because the many people I know living here who fit your cultural profile ("there is no such thing as race" afterall, in your own words) have grown to love the place and are actively involved in its positive development. I am sorry you have had a difficult time securing a white collar job here. Rest assured that it is equally difficult for each of us, regardless of skin color and/or sex. We have white collar professionals in every field who come from different cultural backgrounds and yes, even have different skin colors. The people I know in HR departments around the city make no judgements based on those irrelavant facts. They focus on what qualifications and skill sets are needed for specific positions and make educated decisions based on those factors alone. Since individuals from various cultural backgrounds typically apply, we usually end up with culturally different individuals working side by side as a team. This in my book is the way it should be. Perhaps that is one reason I am so glad to live here and tell others from every culture to come for a visit and experience the life I enjoy everyday. And you know what? They are taking me up on the offer and it has been awesome to witness the virtually perfect success rate. I don't know, perhaps they just don't see the "jankiness" between the few natives who can't get along with anyone else.

Reading the last four pages of this thread = 15 minutes I will never get back!

I am curious, rochelle, how you surmised that native white Greenvillians are so prejudiced against native black Greenvillians. Is this mostly based on your personal experience in applying for jobs, plus your perceived experiences of a couple of close friends? If so, then you hardly have a large enough sample size to draw such harsh conclusions.

I am curious to hear how you went about coming to the conclusion that you did...

Did you attend the University of Rochester, Rochelle?

I've never seen the issues you speak of in Greenville. I'm gay, have a Jewish partner, and have many, many friends of all cultures, Black, Thai, Indian, etc

Greenville, in my few years here, seems to me to be one of the best "melting pots" I've seen in the South (and I've traveled extensively).

Hope you find what you are looking for. And hope you can turn your dislike for Greenville into positive energy in looking for another city.

I would not be surprised if rochelle was indeed a Rochester alum. Go Yellowjackets!

P.S. I am a Caucasian Greenville native, and would have no problem hiring another Greenville native regardless of race. I'm sure my view on this, as a white Greenville native, will be conveniently ignored since it contradicts the argument at hand. Carry on...

A tip to anyone of any color or race trying to get a white collar job, from a white collar executive here. Don't use the words "janky, jankiness, janked, janker" on your resume, if you really want the job!

Look, like I said, TO EACH HIS OWN. My opinion is my opinion and you don't have to share it, and you don't need to understand my thought process. Just accept the fact that I don't see Greenville like you do, and stop judging me and stalking me through these forums. It's not that serious. Really. You act like I insulted your mother or something. It's just an opinion. Get a grip. Damn.

1. I didn't say they were prejudiced. Don't put words in my mouth. I'm sure you have seen that I am very capable of saying just what I mean. If I wanted to say they were prejudiced I would have, thank you very much.

2. People draw conclusions about places based on their experiences, and those of people they know, every day. Why is it so hard for people on this board to accept that individuals are different and what one may like another may not? I mean, really, it's not that hard of a concept.

3. I don't have to justify myself to you or anybody else, and I'm not. I said what I said, and that's it. Don't agree? Fine. Fact is, some people like the city and some don't. That I have some issues with my hometown should not have created the fuss it did. To each his own.

What are you all? The thought police?

That's great for you. But that's your experience.

I never said I disliked Greenville. Just because I have a few issues with the city doesn't mean I dislike it. Why would I keep trying to move back if it was SOOO terrible? I think some folk's brains went on vacation when I "maligned" their precious Greenville. I just don't think Greenville is the Utopia people are making it out to be and I shared my outlook just like everybody else. But, because I didn't bow in worship to the majesty that is Greenville, the thought police came out in full force.

If we do not need to understand your thought process, then why do you keep trying to explain yourself? Why even bother posting if you do not seek some sort of intellectual discussion?

By the way, don't create a disturbance and then accuse others of overreacting when they respond to you. That's bush league.

I, nor anyone else, have put words in your mouth. You have implied a lot in your posts, and have seemingly attempted to ruffle some feathers rather than constructively discuss. If you are so capable of saying just what you mean, why is everyone else here so confused by your posts?

Accepting differences is not a problem for people on here - at least those who have engaged in the last several pages of discussion. It's one thing to accept that people are different (which Greenville, as a city, does a wonderful job of). It's another thing to criticize not only white Greenville natives, but imply certain problems inherent in the city as a whole. That, which you have clearly stated, goes well beyond stating that "individuals are different." With all of your education, you probably already knew that.

This is the part I have the most trouble with. If you want others to understand your points, then justifying and explaining yourself is central to your arguments! If you don't want others to clearly see your views, but rather view you as a troublemaker who offers no constructive input - then congrats, you have achieved your goal.
