Hi, I can't recall what the exact wording is, but they are supped up hotels, kitchenettes, etc, that you can rent out for extended periods.
We are finally making the big move from DFW to Greenville...YAY! We want to take our time to look for homes and so we need to hold up some where while we do this without having to unpack everything.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!..
Thanks!

I think that the term you are looking for is extended stay (although there may be another term that escapes me at the moment)?

If you put the following into Google you'll get a page full of them: "greenville sc extended stay hotels"

I've never stayed at the one in Greenville, but we use Homewood Suites in Orlando every year for a trade show that we go to. They've always been nice. Greenville South Carolina hotel | Homewood Suites by Hilton Greenville, South Carolina| Hotel Suites in Greenville, SC

You might also look into vacation rentals. We used rentals off of VRBO multiple times in the last year when we were up there looking at towns and neighborhoods.

Greenville:

South Carolina Upcountry VRBO® Vacation Rentals - Upcountry SC Homes & Cabins (http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/south-carolina/upcountry#a4320 - broken link)

Travelers Rest:

The entire Upstate Area (some rentals may be much farther out):

I know that some of the apartment complexes in the area offer short-term leases (month-to-month, three-month, etc.) and furnished units. The downside is that the monthly rent on a short-term is more expensive than if you agreed to rent the same unit for a year.

I also looked into extended-stay hotels, but I thought living in a hotel might get a little depressing. I was going to do this for a few months, though.

If you are taking your time to purchase a house chances are you will be staying in some accommodations for longer than 30 days. Even if you found something in the first week it will take at least another month to pass maybe longer. At 30 days in Extended Stays at $70/night that's over $2100. It would be much cheaper to go the furnished apartment route. Granted, the extended stay hotels come equiped with tv and internet but Cable/internet for the month prices wouldn't make up for it.
