Anybody live around this area ..... retire there or around greenville??? Pro's and Con's
If you retire "around" the Traveler's Rest area, then you are retiring "around" the Greenville area. TR is a suburb. Nonstop development on Highway 25. 15 minute drive, max.
I read that they are re-vitalizing the little downtown area due to the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Quaint little town. I had some clients that retired to TR and they love it. Convenient to the mountains as well as to Greenville and the surrounding areas.
Travelers Rest has a more rural feel, if you like that sort of thing. It has come a long way recently though, spurred by the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and improvements made to the downtown area. There a few nice little restaurants, a great cafe, a very good outdoor sports shop, a Saturday Farmer's Market, plus the usual fast food joints over on Rt. 25.
Stores include Publix, Bi-Lo, and a Super Wal-Mart, and they are building a Tractor Supply. A few minutes south is a smallish mall, plus Home Depot, Lowe's, Olive garden, etc. On the southern edge of town is Furman University, thought by some to be one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It's a great place to go for a walk, and the Trail runs right through it. There is a satellite hospital in town, part of the Greenville Hospital system.
With the proximity to the mountains, and enough shopping for daily stuff, TR was our choice for a place to settle, and we are currently building a house to move into.
BTW: There are maybe less bugs than the coast, but there are still plenty to go around.
