This new place, scheduled to open this fall, will be located on Wade Hampton, near downtown (like The Community Tap). From one of the owners: "It's going to use science to create better burgers and shakes with fun + interesting toppings. We'll also have concerts."
You can follow their progress @Owl_Restaurant on twitter. They also have a facebook page.
That address puts it over half a mile from the Community Tap. I wouldn't say a 15 minute walk along Wade Hampton Blvd. would qualify as a "village" experience. Only a minute of two by car at WH Blvd. speeds.
It is about the same distance to Bob Jones U. Is there a big indie crowd there looking for a hangout?
I wish them good luck. I might stop and take a look, it is near my zone.
I noticed they're maintaining a nondescript presence on Wade Hampton Blvd. Most people passing by probably wonder what it is—no name on the sign, just a hand-painted owl. To answer the question, I have not visited since the opening, assuming it is indeed open because they're advertising now. Anyone can ask the owners directly online though, or simply stop by and check it out in person.
There's an ad for this place in "Edible Upcountry" magazine, so I assume they're now open. Anybody been there?
I was at a Beer dinner at Deveraux last night and a fellow patron recommended it to me, she said it was similar in feel to Deveraux, at about a quarter of the price.
Apparently they had a pretty soft grand opening due to issues with a liquor/beer wine license(someone filed a complaint) but they are open! "like" them on facebook for more info
