I have family in Northern Virginia & Maryland and they felt some shaking in the tall buildings but nothing serious. A lot of county buildings & businesses have closed including the library which everyone thought was pretty ridiculous. I think people just wanted an excuse to get off of work.

Being that it took place in DC there were some pretty funny earthquake tweets. Here's the Top 5 list that's been circulating :

#5 - #Breaking: Dow Jones soars on news DC destroyed by earthquake.

#4 - Sorry about the earthquake, DC. That was just Rick Perry getting off his horse.

#3 - Pundits point to Palin's promise to "shake up Washington" as proof of rhetorical complicity.

#2 - Evidently the quake occurred on a little known fault line outside of DC called "Bush's Fault".

#1 - This is what happens when you tell Michelle Obama there's no more chili-cheese fries.

I felt it in North Georgia. Same thing happened - my chair and computer screen going back and forth for about 10 seconds.

Turned on the TV and there it was on the news.

LOL - I thought maybe it was God's way of taking all those Congressmen and shaking them by their lapels.

Personally, I didn't feel a thing where I was at in Greer.

LOL! Good one wstewart!

They are still talking about this on the news. One lady in NC said "we thought the world was coming to an end". So embarrassing considering the severe earthquakes in recent history in Japan & Iran.
