I took my kids there last year. I didn't like how the ticket system for the rides was in place. You could buy the tickets at the usual high prices (I want to say it's about 4 for a dollar, when a typical ride might require 3 or 4 tickets each), or buy a bracelet for unlimited rides. I think the bracelet might have been $20. The bracelet is a nice idea unless your child is too young to ride by themselves (as mine was). I was told that I could not buy my child a bracelet at that age, unless I also bought one (at $20 a piece). And if you wanted to switch riders, say - for example, I didn't want to ride the spinning thing yet again. I wanted to take a break and let my husband take the little ones for a turn. I couldn't let him use my bracelet. My husband would also have to purchase a bracelet for, you guessed it, $20. Or spend more of the little tickets. If you plan to do a lot of rides, especially for more than one child, that gets real expensive- real fast.
And, to be honest, the Upper State Fair had very little to offer other than rides. There was some good food. But not a whole lot of entertainment.
Thanks. Are the local fairs small or a decent size?
Compared to The Big E, tiny.
Compared to the "fair" in the Haywood Mall parking lot, decent size.
Seriously though, it's not a terrible little fair, but don't plan on spending hours there if you're just going for the atmosphere, and you're not planning to riding all the rides. I'm personally kind of surprised that Greenville County hasn't started a large Greenville County Fair. Then again, we already have plenty of festivals throughout the year.
