Default I am looking at a home that says it is in Greenvilee, but is zoned for Mauldin high?

I am looking at homes in Greenville, and there is one I like that has a Greenville address, but says it is zoned Mauldin highschool. The house is on Montauk Dr. Is this in Greenville, or is it Mauldin considering that it says Mauldin highschool. Sometimes the addresses on these realty sites can be misleading. Nothing personal about Mauldin, I just have been researching and visiting Greenville, and would like to know where I am looking when it comes to homes.

Thanks

Mauldin High is one of the best high schools in the upstate (anderson/greenville/spartanburg). It's the largest high school in the upstate last I knew and actually one of the newest.

You're in a good area going to mauldin.

My house is the same way, it is in Mauldin school districts but not in any city. Mailing address says Greenville, SC. Technically I think it is considered Unincorporated Greenville County.

Thanks for the responses. So, by living in an area that is unincorporated area of Greenville, how would it differ from living in another area that is, say, Greenville Highschool zoned? Any differences as far as amenities, convenience, activities for families, crime, etc?

I also forgot to ask, Mauldin seems a good highschool, but what about Hillcrest and the middle school for the area? My son is in th grade, and has high functioning Asperger's, so I need a decent special ed program in a school that is not overrun by bullies, if you catch my drift...
Thanks

There are a ton of schools within Greenville - it's not possible to send all Greenville highschoolers to a single "Greenville" highschool because there are way too many students

As others have pointed out, I'm pretty sure you'd be in the county there. Not really much difference living in the county or a city IMO. There may be some subtle differences like trash pickup, and you're likely to pay a little less in taxes in the county.

The school district is county wide, so schools are zoned by area ("geocode"). We live inside the city of Mauldin (not far from where you are looking), but our son goes to Hillcrest Middle, instead of Mauldin Middle, due to our location. He'll go to Mauldin High though.

As far as Hillcrest Middle. My son isn't fond of it, but hasn't had any issues with anyone making fun of him, bullies, or anything like that. Mostly he just feels like he's back in 5th grade since they have to line up in the halls, and have to sit at the same table at lunch everyday instead of being allowed to sit wherever they want (boys and girls separated, etc). Kind of tough to be treated like a little kid in the 8th grade. This may be at all middle schools though.

Crack, I believe he (?) is referring to the downtown Greenville Senior High Academy. Of course, Hillcrest High School is located in Simpsonville and much further from downtown Greenville.

I firmly believe that living within the city limits of Greenville offers the highest quality of life in the Upstate (shopping, amenities, activities, etc - my opinion only).

If I had a child with any special needs, I'd look at JL Mann or Mauldin High Schools rather than Greenville or Hillcrest High Schools (again, my opinion only).

I completely understand the confusion. When I grew up in PA, if you lived in "X", you went to "X" high school. There are no townships or boroughs in Greenville County, which is why the mailing addresses can get a little confusing. It can almost make the house hunting process a little confusing as well.

If schools are a high priority for you, I would recommend researching the schools first. Once you have identified your preferred schools, you can have your Realtor search for homes that are specifically assigned to those schools.

Keep in mind that Greenville is growing, and school assignments can change any given year, but it's not like it's a regular occurence or anything.

You are also able to "Request a change in assignment" through Greenville County, so that you can apply for your kids to attend a different school than what is assigned. They aren't just handed out though. You have to give a valid reason, and I believe every school only has a certain number of allowed reassignments per school year.

Hope that helps.

Just to clarify, you still have full access to those same amenities if you live outside of the city limits.

If you are outside of city limits like Mauldin, Mauldin city police won't be called for your 911 complaints and you will instead get Greenville County police.

Someone please correct me if this is wrong.
