I started working with Wachovia in the late 1990's. At that time, they were still a regional bank, in only 5 states, and still had a very safe, stable image. Being a "Wachovian" was a justifiable point of pride. Then the acquisition by First Union happened in '01, and that seemed to me like a real clash of cultures. I left a short time after that, and later would hear things about Wachovia that I would have never thought possible just a few years earlier. Then, eventually Wachovia would need a "white knight" in the form of Wells Fargo just to survive.
How the mighty have fallen, indeed. I'm sad to see the name go, but that's the way of the world nowadays, I guess.
I moved to So Carolina in 2001 and set up an account with BB&T after about 2 yrs of getting shafted every month or 2, I switched over to Wachovia. In 2009 moved to Texas and W was here so we stayeed with them. They changed over to W.F, BUT the bank staff stayed there at the same branch so it was like old home week. I'll take Wells Fargo ver BB&T anyday.
BTW BB&T has some branches here in Dallas and are sending me stuff trying to woo me back.
I bank with Wachovia and will really miss their image. The Wells Fargo "Stagecoach" on my replacement credit cards / debt cards / statements / etc makes me sick. I dislike the Wells Fargo image so much, I'm thinking of changing everything over to TD Bank.
I added my own picture to the credit card a nature photo and for my husband surfboards, I agree don't like the stagecoach. Our area is officially switching in October so haven't got the debit card yet hopefully can customize it too.
I was at the WF on Fairview Rd in Simpsonville on Saturday to cash a check. I don't bank with Wachovia/WF, but the check was drawn on WF, so there I was. They were definitely rolling out the red carpet for visitors that day, and I made a point to ask the clerk who assisted me if she had been with Wachovia before. She said that they had retained everyone, and were trying hard to make it a seamless transfer. She also tried to get me to sign up for an account, which I didn't do because I'm very happy with my CU in Michigan, but I may consider it in the future.
Their red/yellow signs remind me of fast food restaurants. Read once so many fast food places use that color combo because it supposedly makes you hungry and want to turn in. I prefer the new green TD signs. Too many businesses use the color red.

I thought that same thing driving by one of the branches tonight.
