We are also traveling the country looking for that special city.We would love to get a # to share ours/yours thoughts and findings. We recently visited Tampa Fl, Savannah Ga,Charleston SC,Asheville NC and Greenwood SC. Charleston and Asheville are at the top of our list. The Asheville winter is the only negative.
I'm not sure why there are so many questions about ethnic diversity and tolerance in Greenville. I just got back from there and the city is swimming with diversity of all sorts. We saw all kinds of ethnic restaurants all over, mixed race couples, etc., etc.
I currently live about as far north (NE) in the USA as you can get without ending up in Canada, and I am 15 minutes from a city that is larger than G-ville. My small town is on average 98% white, and has been forever, as are most towns around me. Being from the north does not ensure racial tolerance, any ethnic families that move into many smaller towns around here would feel very out of place, and like I said, I am in a north eastern state.
G-ville is urban and diverse, just like any other larger city.
P.S. We found out we have to move to Greenville and were very afraid that we would hate it, having never been there - we traveled there expecting the worst since it was 100% unknown to us. We just got back, and we are both totally in love with the city and all it has to offer. Anyone looking to move there should rest-assured that it is very clean and nice. We are back home now, up east, and are counting the days till we get back to Greenville permanently. We spent a lot of time talking with the HR people at the new job and she told us that almost everyone in this company is transplanted from up north, and all of the transplants we spoke with totally raved about living in Greenville. We have talked with countless people now, not one person has mentioned one negative, other than the slower pace of life and the less-aggressive slow drivers on the freeway - not sure that could be counted as a negative...
