"Manufacturing is a big strength for South Carolina. Factories are creating jobs here and their big supplier network continues to grow," Woodward said. "Take a walk in Greenville [where GE and Fluor have large plants], and it doesn't look like a recession."
Doug Woodward is an economics professor at the University of South Carolina. Have fun even trying to disagree with him. Oh and South Carolina is likely to be the second-fastest growing state over the next sixth months, according to forecasts from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve. Have fun even trying to disagree with them also.
While South Carolina may be doing ok, it's interesting that he mentions Fluor, which has gone through big layoffs and employs a fraction of what they did a few years ago.

I hadn't heard about that. I thought they were getting lots of international contracts(?). Of course, I don't know anyone who works for Fluor, so guess I'm not in the loop!

I got laid off from Fluor about 1.5 years ago along with 300+ other people.....
Fluor has a big campus, but what matters is how much of it is actually occupied..
Guess these people don't bother to visit the unemployment office or the welfare office's in Greenville before they write these articles!
Forget about stats and peoples opinions.....an in person trip to these offices says it all.
Most with a skilled trade and education aren't there. I haven't been. I've always had work.
