Default Schools/job situation in Greenville?

We've been trying to get out of MA for points south. We had been focusing on Raleigh but a job I thought I had the inside track for didn't come through. Husband has a banking background--I'm more of a packaged goods marketing person. Charlotte is probably better for him and a consideration but we like to keep all our options open.

What/who are the major employers in Greenville? What are the public schools like?

Thanks!

Default You will love SC

I moved to Simpsonville, SC 2 years ago from MA and have never regretted it. As far as the schools my oldest was just staring kindegarten and now is in 2nd grade. I know SC ranks low but I can tell you that here they have all day kindegarten compared to MA where I lived they only went to morning or afternoon sessions for a 2.5 hr class day. My son at this point in his life is more advanced from his schooling here. When we have friends from MA visit us who have same age/grade children I find my son ahead academically because he is now able to read and write at age 6. My siblings have moved here as well and have older children and the only negative thing that I can see about the high school is that compared to MA they put too many children per school. In MA (Somerville) we had about 500 in the high school. . . here I think they have at least twice that amount. But as always it is what your child puts forth to receive a good education - the school system and Christian attitudes in this area are refreshing to me. You will love it here!!!!

I haven't looked extensively, but in the Defense/Aerospace field I noticed that in addition to Lockheed there is also 3M, SAIC and Honeywell. Plus there's a big BMW plant & HQ for North American Operations, yes?
