Noticed this morning the property has sold at Hammet Rd and Poinsett where that old industrial buiding is. I think that is where they were proposing a mixed use development. I hope something good is coming there to start the turnaround of that area.

Say so long to the old shirt factory at Hammett Street and Poinsett Highway. The Poinsett Highway we know now will be transformed with this demolition. Possible major development coming to the site.

Eyesore building coming down; future unknown | Greenville News - WYFF Home

Possible uses for redevelopment are a grocery store and/or drugstore. I could see a supermarket with a pharmacy fulfilling both needs. Publix or Walmart Neighborhood Market could fit that bill.

He said expect grocery/pharmacy. That is exactly what I was thinking. My guess would be Walmart Grocery since they are in expansion mode. A Walgreens is already @Cherrydale and I can't see Publix going there with the other Poinsett Hwy store and a DT store.

I think Walmart Neighborhood Market has been looking at sites for future locations downtown and nearby Cherrydale.

Publix would thrive with a small store format like McBee Station 2 miles away and University Square 4 miles away. The immediate neighborhoods would need some work.

I would think it would include some apartments too like McBee Station. That corridor between DT and Cherrydale seems like it would be ripe for apartment development and retail. So close to DT and bordering the North Main neighborhoods what a great place it could be to live and shop.

I would like to see something like McBee Station on an upper level in this section of Poinsett Highway. Publix or Walmart Neighborhood Market, some midrise residences and some offices, specialty shops and dining entities would be a great start.

Since this area has been known as Park Place, what could the City of Greenville do to designate a "Park Place District?"

Bids went out 9-21-2017: https://www.greenvillecounty.org/app...ds/IFB0917.pdf The improvement project only goes from Gantt Street to Hammett Street Extension....yuck. Maybe it’s only the first phase. Hope so. The overall plan looks good. Lots of landscaping, new sidewalks between landscaping and road, new mast traffic lights, benches, decorative fencing, bike racks, middle angled parking along Toledo Street,*etc.*
