So what's the story here? Is there substance to this or is it just well-meaning pie in the sky?

Oh how I'd love to see this. Driving down Poinsett Highway into downtown makes me wanna gag! Do this, and watch that stretch of road grow like a weed. I don't see any 'meat' here though with this proposal. It's all very vague.

The plan is to revitalize Poinsett Highway between the Norfolk Southern and CSX underpasses as the Poinsett District. The center would be Poinsett Highway and Furman Hall Road.

Furman has taken a big step in heading this up and last I heard they were starting construction on a park "under a bridge". I'm not sure where, but I think with Furman behind the wheel changes will start to happen.

That's cool, but I was really wanting to know if this was just an academic exercise, or something real, that can actually happen.

The President of Furman is supporting a "work day" along the corridor in April. Classes will be cancelled, and the goal is to get 1,000+ students doing physical work along the corridor, but also to interact with the residents/small business owners in the area.

Sounds like a bunch of talk and wishful thinking to me. Seriously...the COUNTY doing a road improvement project? Don't make me laugh.

Great. As long as they don't put Poinsett on one of those stupid road diets with bike lanes. Traffic is bad enough and backs up during rush hour. Please keep it 4 lanes. I rarely see anyone using those bike lanes they have installed in other areas of downtown. What a waste of money. IMO
