Smile Moving near Simpsonville, SC

Hi...

I live in Florida and we are moving to SC, (near Simpsonville) next year. We love the rural area. Anything I should really know about that area? good and bad?

Thanks!

I guess it depends on what you call 'rural'. We are moving to Traveler's Rest, which is much more rural than Simpsonville. It seems like Simpsonville is poised to become the kind of area that we are leaving in FL. I've had enough of fast food joints, car lots, shopping malls, and densely packed subdivisions. If you really want rural, you should do more looking around before you buy, especially north and west of Greenville.

There are some areas of Simpsonville that are crowded (Woodruff Road and 1 mile of Fairview Road come to mind). However, Simpsonville covers a large area. A good portion of it is still rural. I don't think people realize this until they really spend some time driving around the area. You may want to check out the area near Carolina Oaks Golf Course (by Fountain Inn) and the area west of 385 towards Pelzer.

We have been here for about a year. We enjoy the convenience of being 5 minutes from the post office, grocery stores, and the library. We have been able to enjoy community events in both Simpsonville and Fountain Inn. Both have active recreation departments and many town-centered activities such as parades, festivals, etc. The one thing that has been an adjustment is the schools. School assignments can be confusing. You really need to verify the school assignment of your home on the Greenville County School website. Your children will not necessarily be assigned to the closest school to your home. I am not saying this is bad, just a change in what I am used to.

I do think it is a nice area. However, I don't think you can go wrong in most of the upstate. It really just depends on what you are looking for.
