Default Is the Bi-Lo Center in a bad area?

Okay, here's something I've noticed since it's being built.

Does anyone else feel the Bi-Lo center is in a bad location?

I dunno. I feel it should be within direct connection to main street downtown. It should be the hub of our city's downtown developments.

I think it's in a mentally ugly space as to one side there's houses.. .another side bail bonds and prisons........ and the other side, some area I've not even paid attention to what's on the street since my 20+ years of LIving in Greenville.

This wont change obvioulsy but I feel there should be more business / social spaces around the venue to make it more attractive to the city. I think this way more would be aware of events going on in the building. More people would gladly walk to an event. It would bring more money into the city.

Anyone else got an opinon!

Eh I would hate to deal with the big name acts traffic if it was directly off main street. I think its pretty decent because it is walking distance of all the restaurants downtown. If it was further out from the city center the people, the businesses downtown wouldn't see that increase of traffic due to events at the Bi-Lo center.

I don't think it is. Is the United Center in Chicago in a bad area? Certainly isn't as convenient as Bi-Lo, but is also walking distance to good restaurants. I think with the crowds that both places bring in they are both situated just fine.

I think an overhead rail system could easily "connect" bilo center to downtown, similar to the people mover in Detroit. It could also run out to the baseball field, this would let people park anywhere downtown and access all the venues.

This is a stupid question IMHO. Greenville is lucky to even have the BiLo Center in general, and since it is right at the end of I-385 and within short walking distance of downtown, I couldn't think of many better places, if any, for it. For Anderson to have something like the BiLo Center even a mile further from downtown than where this is for Greenville would be like God parting the heavens and directly blessing that county/city.

Is this thread a joke? Late April Fools Day prank maybe? Bi-Lo Center in a bad area? Don't make me laugh.

Not in a bad area, but it would be good to see something develop in the former Greenville Memorial Auditorium space that would draw people.

Hear, hear! How many aborted developments of that property must we endure? Maybe the city should buy it and turn it into a public green space??

I agree, I never have trouble finding parking, its really close to downtown, the neighborhood surrounding is actually pretty nice., who would want an arena plopped in the middle of downtown? there's a reason they made main st the way it is.
