Thumbs up New VA Super Clinic under construction in Greenville

The new Upstate VA clinic is now under construction on Grove Road, very near the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. The facility will cost $30 Million and cover 77,000 square feet.

More information:
New VA clinic to offer services to Upstate veterans | The Journal Watchdog by Community Journals, a media company based in Greenville, S.C

Quote:
George Blevins, Director of Greenville County Veterans Affairs, said the new clinic will offer more convenient care for the estimated 38,000 veterans in Greenville County. “It appears to be a super-organized facility and from the front door on it looks very accessible,” he says.

Wow, that is nice. I suppose it will replace the VA clinic we have now. I hear it is kind of run down.

Very nice - our vets deserve at least as much! I'm sure the tiny office on Augusta Rd is bursting at the seams the last few years....

Very happy to see this and proud that it's in Greenville! I like this quote in the article the OP posted:

Quote:
“We remain a free nation of free citizens because they carry out this commitment. In return, as citizens, our commitment to them is to always do our best to heal their wounds and give them what they need. This new VA clinic is a tangible example of our commitment to the veterans.”
Now if they could put a Commissary out here, I would be on cloud 9!!

It looks really great, but I'm still curious as to where and what plans there are for replacing the one in Anderson. They were talking about building one over seven times the size of the tiny clinic we have right now since before this location even was being planned, and was supposed to open early next year, yet they haven't even announced where it'll locate and the dates been moved to an ambiguous '2014'

It's GOT to happen sooner than later, but maybe the one in Greenville is being seen/planned as more of a regional Clinic?

That's all well and good, Greenville turns out to be the regional headquarters for pretty much everything upstate wise, but we need a much better clinic than what we have in Anderson sooner rather than later. My father is a 61 year old veteran who has to drive to Augusta about every month or two because he can't see anyone important at this clinic and it's no better to go to Columbia. I can only imagine how the circumstances are for many of our other veterans in the area...from what he told me there's not even a full time doctor!

Having treatment options in Greenville would be a shorter trip, but that's still like an hour to hour and a half trip to take, and those that live farther like in Abbeville County, it wont be any closer at all.

It's great news to hear they are finally doing something useful for the vets butttttttt, I find it a BIG waste of tax dollars for BEAUTY and LOCATION when the old Allen Bennit hospital at Greer sits as an unused resource that will just go to waste more than likely. It's all politics and power as usual. I'd be willing to bet someone's brother or brother in law is getting rich from this build and land purchase! Our vets do deserve the best however that new fancy looking hospital will not make them any more well than the closed Greer hospital would have! When any vet ever went to the hospital when they were serving there was no Great Looking Fancy Hospital on base to go too, but they still had good service! I proclaim that things like this is why health care is so expensive! My wife was in that new hospital Greenville built to replace Allen Bennett and she did not get a bit more well than she could have at the old Allen Bennett! There were two TVs in her private room along with a grand player piano on the first floor. I wondered how much healing that piano or extra TV was gonna do and what the money used to get it could have been used for than just sitting there. Ok, enough of my rant I feel better now. I hope you all have a great day and stay well please.

PS. My father in law gets paid gas money to go to Columbia from Greenville once a month. I wonder how much gas money overall will be saved?

Looks good!

Side anecdote: every time I drive on 14 near 85 to get to the airport, I wonder what happened to that areas development near that hospital.
