While on the subject of former retailers (lol @ Sky City during the '80s), three Greenville staples for a while were Brendle's on Pleasantburg, Service Merchandise on Laurens, and Phar-Mor on Haywood.

I remember Sky City as a Big Lots type of regional discount retailer with multiple locations around the Upstate. They died in the early nineties.

Was that store called "Her Majesty"? I used to run around there, too, and play with the pins on the floor!

How about ol' Charlie Gertz, giving away a "Charlie Said it Would" umbrella to some lucky WYFF viewer at the end of every 6 o'clock newscast?
Or listening to Love and Hudson on the "new" My 102.5?

Service Merchandise, I do believe, was actually on Pleasantburg, across from the current Wendy's near East North.
And just to fry your noodle, somewhat across the street used to be a restaurant called "Sambo's."
Anyone remeber the Dutch Pantry on Laurens? Fond memories of washing many a plate there during high school...
