WAZEAZ is on a distinguished road
Question Commute

I have seen posts warning of the commute on I85. Is that from both directions into Greenville or just from the East? We are possibly relocating to Greenville from NW PA, but would like to stay away from a commute that is a nightmare. We are looking for a home in a nice area, but not in a subdivision with alot of homes. We are in our 40's and bringing a 2 year old grand daughter with us. Hopefully, her parents will be joining us when the issues of college are all worked out for the 2 of them. What would be a good place to start? A small piece of land and privacy and peace and quiet are what we are after. After living in a subdivision here since 1989 and having a backyard that is a fishbowl, we would like a change. What areas would you folks recommend? Thanks

I highly recommend the Powdersville-Wren area, which has plenty of non-subdivided "communities" and lots of rural feel and appeal, though it also sits in one of the very best school districts in the state and has plenty of shopping nearby. Another positive factor is its very easy commute into Greenville via I-85 and I-185. The largest hospital in the state is at the end of I-185, a mere 5 to 10 minute drive from Powdersville. Downtown is only a few minutes beyond that so you can understand why I am always speaking highly of that area. Besides these things, it is also a pretty area, formerly mostly farmland, but now you see more pastures for livestock and horses than planted vegetables (though there are those as well). The terrain features gently rolling hills and there are numerous creeks throughout the area (everywhere in the Upstate). You'll find that there are actually quite a few surprising amenities in the Powdersville-Wren area. A nice 24-hour gym (Total Fitness), multiple dance studios (UCDC), a real butcher shop (The Chopping Block), 24-hour grocery, several pizza places, several other restaurants and fast food places - these are only a handful of the many treats you can expect. On top of that, the crime rate is very low overall. Definitely worth a serious look.

I live in Powdersville. Many new neighborhoods going up. Quiznos and Ace Hardware are under construction. New library should open next month. Very convenient to Greenville.
