Are We Ready to Build Something Taller?
For years the Landmark building has held record for tallest in Greenville. Are we ready to go taller? Could be. Downtown is filling up at record rates, and things are currently under construction. Chime in.

Nope, there is still a large bit of Riverplace unleased. And with the One Development being built I don't foresee any extreme office demand coming to justify a building taller than Landmark.

Don't be surprised if phase III of One is.

I sure as hell HOPE so! I want to be able to see downtown from I-85, dammit! We are a great city/area, and there's precious little to show for it in a traditional "city" sense.
I would so much rather see fewer, but larger office buildings than the piddly here & there little buildings that we seem to have throughout the entire area.

I remember at one point along I-85 on Millenium Campus a few high-rises were proposed or perhaps just concept drawings but anyways my point of saying that is Greenville capable of supporting two major centers? In 20-30 years along I-85 from Laurens Road to Woodruff Road will be a miniature Buckhead and hopefully Downtown will still be live. What are you all thoughts on this?
And to answer the question, I think Greenville is ready for a new state tallest, not just the city but as others have said existing space will be needed to be filled first. But on the other hand Greenville seems like its on the edge of a room within the next few years so I wouldn't expect that space to be vacant for long. But come to think of it who says the new tallest needs to be office space? It could be a hotel, residential, and office space mixed in one so a new tallest may be imminent, I just want it to be proportional with the existing skyline and I would love for it to age well.

It doesn't matter to me that much as long as we build and grow. A dense skyline with 10 story mid rises is fine. I like urban development. Especially helping a small city grow. Growth is important to me. Stop growing and you die.

Yep, lets just build taller so there will be no sunshine on the streets and the beautiful trees along Main die.

The only way to stop it is to stop growing or sprawl out. Pick your poison. I like density growth as opposed to continued sprawl. Growth is good for business.

You do realize that there are trees even in New York City?
Plus there is a setback zoning for Main Street so trees will ALWAYS be growing on Main. The only way it won't is if the zoning is changed.
