Piedmont Locals,

Would you have a house that backs up to Highway 85? Is there alot of traffic? What is the speed limit? Is it a major road through the area?

Thanks!

60 mph, but who goes the speed limit?
Obviously, it's an interstate.

Default Wrong Hwy!

Ok, so sorry...old eyes...

I meant highway 86 near the intersections of Major Road and Hollywood Road.

It took me forever to understand what you all were talking about because I have yet to set foot in SC...Hubby is there and looking around so I am not familiar with the road yet...sorry!

Also, I can't figure out how to edit the title of the thread so I will just leave it for what it is till he looks at the house.

Thanks!

When your house and property backs up to I-85, you are going to live with the noise of traffic going by. The speed limit for I-85 is 60 from MM 34 (US-29) to MM 68 (SC-129). (Some stretched of I-85 should have its limit raised to 65 or 70, in my opinion.)

SC-86 is the primary highway from I-85 (Exit 35) that heads directly into Piedmont. River Road (I-85 Exit 39) is a secondary road that carries traffic from Powdersvilel into Piedmont. SC-20 is the other primary highway that runs through Piedmont on the way to Pelzer, Williamston and Belton.

Oh, up there - the speed limit is around 45 mph. Since it is a state road, and a connector from the region onto I85, there will be some traffic at times. It's hard to estimate how busy it really gets though - it might not be too bad on that side of the Interstate.

There is a lot of traffic on that road. With all of the growth in the Powdersville area, I would expect traffic to steadily increase through that area.

I wouldn't personally buy a house on that road.

Ohhhhh, Hwy 86. Ok. . .it's a busy two-lane road. Proximity to I-85 is nice. Noise is probably moderate, since it's just a two-lane, as opposed to four lanes or more. The speed limit at that intersection is 40 mph, but like I said before, who goes the speed limit? Most people go about 50 there.

SC-86 is used for tractor-trailer traffic heading from Easley or Piedmont to Simpsonville without using I-185's toll section. Also, Piedmont and the Wren areas will continue to grow in population as Powdersville gets crowded. I would not rule widening SC-86, and SC-8, to four lanes from Easley to US-25 in twenty years.
