I live in Greer and I don't know if it's worth going to the fireworks downtown. This will be the first year I am in Greenville for this holiday. I hear they are one of the biggest in the state, so I really want to go. I am just nervous about the crowds and traffic afterwards. Any advice on where to park or if I should check out another town's display?
I am hearing that the crowds are ridiculous downtown...so I just don't know what to do. All I know is I need to see some fireworks!
I'm glad you posted this, because I was actually wondering if any of the outlying cities have a good fireworks thing going on. I don't want to deal with the Greenville downtown crowd either. Any heads up about stuff in Taylors / Greer will be particularly appreciated.
Just do it. The crowds will be thick but if you want, just park at University Square, pack a cooler with food and beverages and enjoy a 'moon picnic' as traffic clears. An hour after the finale, you will be fine.
Yes, the fireworks in downtown are definitely worth any potential hassle related to a crowded festival. No other event in the Upstate provides a better pyrotechnic display. However, if you prefer a smaller event with decent fireworks, then check out the family-friendly Greenville Symphony Orchestra concert at the Charter Amphitheatre in Heritage Park

Yes, I agree. Try it at least once. If I remember right, there's live music near the riverfront, and other great things to do while you're waiting for the show to start. I've done it once, and it was amazing, but am not in a rush to do it again, to be honest.

Personally, I think it is, at least once. Watching the fireworks above the bridge at Falls Park was a really neat experience.
Personally, the Heritage Park thing in Simpsonville seems more my speed - I see gates are at 5:30pm, does anyone happen to know around what time the fireworks start?
Thanks for all the helpful info and to the OP for bringing it up!
I do not know how it compares, but Fairview Baptist Church in Greer will be putting on their fireworks show at 9:45 on the 4th. It had been scheduled for Sunday, but the storms caused a postponement. I'm a little puzzled by why they are waiting so late to start the show, but that is what I was told by a church employee.

The fireworks in Simpsonville are scheduled to start at approximately 9:45pm, immediately following the truncated '1812 Overture' performance with live cannons.
