Macy's selection
Just an observation here. In the last year or so, the inventory selection at Macy's in Greenville has declined, at least in the Men's dept. For years, Macy's got direct shipments of the latest fashions and merchandise straight from the Atlanta regional headquarters, going back to the Rich's days. Now, the local Macy's is part of the NC division serving Raleigh and Charlotte. So to find the latest selections of recent merchandise, you have to travel to the Atlanta or Charlotte stores, as often the Greenville store is skipped over. Or order online, as the store selector confirms the latest selections are not available here. For example, the latest INC fall and winter merchandise is fully available in Clt and Atlanta, but not here. They need to put the Greenville store back in the Atlanta division so we will once again get the better and more complete selection here.

Just go to Belk - Greenville is one of Belk's top stores after the monster stores in Charlotte & Raleigh. Lots of brands no one else in Greenville has. I speak here in an overall sense, not really sure how their Men's dept stacks up against Macy's or other local stores.

Yes, the Belk in Greenville is one of their better stores. I would just like to see Macy's get a better mix of merchandise like when they were part of the Atlanta division, going back to the Rich's days. I like some of the Macy's brands that Belk does not offer. But the Belk here is indeed a nice store.

I know what you mean about the merchandise at Macy's for sure! I spent a good number of years in Birmingham, AL in the 80's & 90's and they had both Rich's AND Macy's at the Galleria. Oh, when they opened, they both even had gourmet food departments!
"This ain't your father's Macy's" anymore.

Really any Macy's store that was once Rich's, Hecht's, Marshall-Field's, Burdines, etc. aren't that nice, however stores that opened as a Macy's are very nice. If you want to see a nice Macy's then the store at Mall at Millenia or Fashion Center at Pentagon City are VERY impressive. It is basically a mix of a normal everyday Macy's (like the ones that were once Rich's, Burdines, etc.) and a Bloomingdale's. Very nice indeed. Anymore I just don't go shopping that much in Asheville or Greenville and just save my money for Belk at SouthPark, or more importantly Nordstrom, hands down my favorite store.

To be fair & totally honest, Greenville's Belk isn't anything to pass up, unless you're uber-rich. But to the OP's original point, it is sad how the product selection in the same Rich's then Macy's store has eroded over time. There's really no reason for it.

I do not patronize department stores unless it is something I really need. Over the years, styles have changed, quality decreased and prices increased. My business has transferred over to independents or another chain, not found in urban areas, for my wardrobe.

Yes, Millenia and Pentagon are very nice stores, as original Macy's. But, like you said, some of the converted stores are not as nice, especially some of those Burdines's in Fla. But the Mall of Ga. and SouthPark stores are very nice, and they used to be Rich's and Hecht's. I often shop those stores to find items unavailable in Greenville. My complaint here is that when the Haywood store was part of the Atlanta division, it had a better selection of merchandise and did not get skipped over in favor of the Charlotte, Atlanta, and Raleigh stores. I would like for them to put the Greenville store back in the Atlanta division so it will get a more direct shipment of current merchandise. Plus makes more logistical sense.

Maybe 90% of his customers are women?
