Actually, it is appropriately named because the most believable local legend says the name origin is directly associated with black powder (gunpowder), which has been used to kill countless innocent lives over many generations.
My post above was written in response to a different member's completely incorrect comments regarding Powdersville (they have since been deleted). The Powdersville area in northeastern Anderson County is an excellent community for a diverse group of residents, despite its lack of local municipal representation. It is generally very safe and quiet, yet within a reasonably short distance from a large hospital campus, vibrant downtown Greenville, and most of the Upstate via I-85.

I second the Powdersville suggestion. Schools are good, housing is reasonably priced with plenty of land, and it's convenient to pretty much everything.
