Waffle House has closed one of its two Duncan units. The unit on East Main Street (SC-290) west of I-85 has closed. The second unit on East Main Street, past Roger's Bridge Road east of I-85, remains open.
QuikTrip is another month from opening on Spartangreen Boulevard at East Main Street. Gas pumps and signage has been installed.
Spartanburg:
Apollo's Greek and Italian Restaurant is opening on Warren H. Abernathy Highway (US-29) in the space vacated by Pizza Inn.
A mex-mex restaurant opened recently next to the coming Apollo's.

And a fine facility it is! Spent a face to face work day at a co-worker's new home in S'burg a couple wks ago. We had lunch at Delaney's Pub downtown. Was pleasantly surprised by both the establishment and the look and vitality of downtown S'burg! Spartanburg certainly has changed for the better since we arrived in the Upstate 12 years ago!
I wasn't aware there was a thread specifically for the ones in the Greenville area, I thought it was just the upstate in general. If this is not the case, however, does that mean you'll start one for the other main upstate county?
You can't discuss Spartanburg restaurants without mentioning the famous Beacon. Big fully loaded burger platters and a landmark institution. And the famous J.C. who calls out the orders.
Also, Spartanburg is home to Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, a mostly midwestern chain with a taste similar to KFC original recipe. Used to be very good, but haven't been there recently. Only other SC location is in Rock Hill. Supposedly founder Lee Cummings was Col. Sander's cousin. And at one time the chain was owned by Shoney's.
The other retail/restaurant thread always seems to focus primarily on Greenville County, so I think it is good for Spartanburg to have its own forum. As for retail, does Westgate Mall satisfy shoppers, or do Spartanburg residents feel the need to travel to Haywood Mall? I know Westgate doesn't have an Apple store or Macy's, and the Belk, Sears, and JCPenney at Haywood are larger.

I've seen that location - always wondered why that was the ONLY one we have seen in the Upstate. We used to LIVE off of Lee's offerings when we were young & poor back in B'ham!

I have never dined at the Beacon or Lee's. I will advise trying Big Daddy's, having two locations on Asheville Highway in Inman and Spartanburg. Big Daddy's has awesome cheese fries.

Spartanburg does well with Westgate as its regional mall. It does not have a Macy's, but you still have an eight screen cinema, two secondary anchors in Bed, Bath & Beyond and Dick's Sporting Goods, and smaller specialty shops.
I was at a party in Spartanburg recently, and they had Lee's Fried Chicken as one of the "finger foods." It had been years since I had it (there was a Lee's location in the early 90's in Anderson), and it was as awesome as I remembered. Worth stopping by if you're in the area.
