I am looking to relocate to the area this coming summer (2013). I live in Utah so the mountain biking is EPIC, can anyone give me ideas on mountain biking in the blue-ridge region or other areas surrounding (30-45 minutes) of Greenville (other than Brevard, NC)?

While not as epic as Utah, the mountain biking in this area has its own appeal.

Dupont State Forest has 90 miles of great trails, and is about 45 minutes from Greenville. Some of it is shared with horses and hikers and hunting in certain areas at certain times of the year.

Issaqeena Lake Trail about 40 minutes from Greenville. Parts of it are shared with hikers, horses, and hunters at certain times of the year.

For a quick ride after work, there's Paris Mountain State Park - about 20 miles of decent trail shared with Hikers. It's closed to mountain bikes on Saturday.

For more variety, there's Croft State Park and Palmetto Passage trails in Spartanburg.

This is a great trail to start with for those new to the area. Easy to find. Good parking. Not too tough of a trail.

Bikeoid, thanks...@Skyliner, I am familar with SORBA, but it is always good to get the locals perspective. From what I have read so far, it looks like skinny riding is popular in the region, are there any good local mountain bike clubs?

Upstate Sorba is it - depending on how many volunteer, they organize races such as the Paris Mountain Downhill and Cranksgiving. Also trail building sessions - one for new trails on Paris mountain attracted 70 volunteers last winter. In the past they have held periodic meetings but I don't see any listed on the web site now. Upstate Sorba

Long Cane Scenic Area about 25 minutes from Greenwood is a good place to ride if you are in the Upstate looking for a different place to go.

I saw it mentioned on a local Greenwood bike shop (Emerald City Bikes) website and I checked it out.

I'm going to ride the abandoned Parkland golf course in Greenwood around Cokesbury Road in the next few weeks. The golf cart trails are still there.

The Sliding Rock Creek mountain bike trail grand opening is Wednesday, November 14 at 4:30. This winds through the wooded area next to the Sliding Rock Creek greenway trail behind Sterling School

If you search Youtube for "paris mountain mountain bike" there are a number of videos of people flying down the trails on their bikes.

Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.
