Anybody ever noticed how much FURMAN Real Estate comapny owns in Greenville?
I dunno but it seems every piece of land in Greenville, Furman Company gets their hands on it
this doesn't even seem normal to me at this point. It just seems like they are politically tied and can keep a hand on everything basically.
What's their ties to politics here? I know they have some b/c I spoke with an in-law to the President of Furman Univ, who's tied to Furman CO...
anybody have the story on them or wondered how they get so big a share of Greenville?
It's like they get land that wasn't for sale to the public... that's not right

well, if it's not a fair playing field for buyers... it's leaves the economy in the hands of selected people instead of a free market

A lot of IFS ... there are ZERO facts in your original proposition, so it's hard to take seriously. If you go to NYC you'll find that the two largest landowners are the Catholic Church and Columbia University (at least this was the case 10-20 years ago). I can't tell you why, but let's not forget they wield and control a lot of MONEY. That doesn't mean they didn't get insider deals or had and unfair "connected" advantage, but without some facts to justify such an assumption, then you're just whistling dixie --- so to speak.

Well, you are assuming they are getting inside deals but have provided no information to support your assumption. I doubt that is the case. If it seems they are buying land that wasn't listed for sale perhaps they are buy contacting the owners of land they are interested in directly. You assume there is something underhanded going on but I doubt that's the case. If someone came to me and told me they wanted land and where they wanted it I could find it even if it wasn't listed. At that point it's just a matter of if they have enough capital to convince the owner to sell it. The Furman Co. has the capital.
You shouldn't make false accusations without basis.

i just look around. Seems like they own EVERYTHING
But i could just be far-fetching here , that's why i asked if anyone else had the same feeling here
I agree on the capital part...t hat's why the 3 classes usually stay the same
I just noticed Furman has a WHOLE LOT OF pull here and a whole lot of property
and we all know Greenville is good for letting a few people sit like a fat cat on top... it's in our history for the last 70 years probably

This is the 21st Century. Greenville overall is a much different place than it was 10 years ago, let alone 70 years ago.

lol Are you serious?
Do you know that Hollingsworth, Milliken, and I forget this 3rd guys name but they are/were invovled in every major company that moves here...
I mean... the quote is right.. "buy land, they aren't making any more of that"
but there should be caps at this point. We don't need to develop every piece of land and definiteliy dont' need a few people owning the property around a million

What do you suggest Sojones? Shall we take their property away from them and redistribute it to those that own nothing? Shall we stop development all together and force everybody with capital and money to go somewhere else? Or perhaps you just want to handcuff those three and Furman from developing anything. I'm really not sure what you think should be done.
