If this is correct, is this new road(specifically) being built to handle the traffic flow so traffic won't be backed up on I-385N (towards Simpsonville) in case of an accident/hazard/delay???
Why would you be traveling on I-385 North to get from Haywood Mall to Simpsonville? Did you mean I-385 South?
g-man430, You and Simpsonvillian are right, that was a serious typo! YIKES!!!!!
*facepalm myself as I traveled that route every day from Haywood Road to Simpsonville daily for THREE YEARS. You'd think I'd get the directions right, huh????
The ramp from i85 N to 385N is closed until further notice while crews inspect the ramp bridge support. You can see why in the photo. Images from SCDOT.

Good grief - are supports not inspected on a timely basis? Was the support covered with kudzu (like the support in the distance)?
Traveled some of the main roads in the mid and low country last weekend (I26, I20,I95}. Though some areas need widening some kept commenting on how much better the road surfaces were than I85.
i have never seen any issue with 85 between Mauldin road or so and the SC - GA state border. i don't know how it could be any smoother. That is like 30-40 miles of interstate.
the main issue with 85 is as you approach Woodruff which they have not paved for some reason after paving a stretch approaching Laurens. There is also some pitting on some of the entrance/exit ramps.
I-26 through the Irmo area is the worst interstate surface that I've encountered in the state outside of the portion of 85-N approaching Woodruff Rd.
