Default Furman University

I just learned that Furman University used to be run by the Southern Baptists.

If you go to University of South Carolina it's USC so why is it wrong for Furman to be FU? In this case it is not dirty until you make it that way. Why do people's minds always trip to the gutter?

My daughter attends FU and we are damn proud of her!

Good for you! I read that it used to be

Furman University of Christian Knights

Don't know if that's true, however.

When I lived in Texas, North Texas State changed their name to the University of North Texas.

Their radio station, however, decided to go with KNTU for their call letters. Go Figure.

Furman University is an absolutely awesome institute that is really gaining a progressive reputation these days. It is also one of the most beautiful campuses in the entire nation. Very worthy of local pride!

Well, let me tell you what started this...

The school store sells items with "FU" on it and the fans were yelling it at the football game we went to a few weeks back. My daughter says that the school is considering making the "FU" references disappear.

Two of our cars have FU stickers on them. My son said that he noticed someone in traffic pumping his fist as he drove behind us. It also says "Go Furman" so it cannot or should I say should not be misconstrued. Most of what people think doesn't get to me...I think you've seen that in many of my posts...I don't want to judge people and I don't think they should judge me. There is no reason we can't get along; it just may be harder for others to do.

I hadn't thought about the BJU moniker when I wrote this, thanks for bringing that up, sojones.

My daughter originally wanted to go to U of Chicago so we are very pleased with her choice. UofC is nothing but concrete and Furman is very much different from that.

I agree with you. However, you did remind me of a funny line from the movie The Odd Couple. Jack Klugman is yelling at Tony Randall..

"You leave little notes on my pillow. Told you a hundred times I cannot stand little notes on my pillow. "We are all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out "F.U." was Felix Ungar."
