I am looking for a home near downtown Greenville
and liked the follwing areas
Cleveland Forest, Augusta area and Alta vista, Bontay Woods (sp?)
With that in mind , can you tell me the pros and cons of each of those areas
also can anyone tell me about other areas like the above that are close to downtown under $450,000

Thanks

Why would you want to live "close" to downtown when you could live "in" downtown for that price?

Rather than begin a new thread, I hope I can continue here and ask about areas near downtown in a lower price range.

I saw several listings in a subdivision called North Main. The homes are old & small, but look charming. A few of them have been updated from top to bottom. Most of the homes don't have garages. Even new homes I'm seeing in my price range (around $150k) often don't have garages. I don't really need a garage (don't have one now) but the crime stats show car theft as a major problem as in any city. Although I don't drive a luxury vehicle (an 06 Camry) nobody wants to wake up to find someone has broken into her car or stolen the wheel covers, although it does have an alarm...not that anyone pays attention to them.

Is there anyone here who lives in that area? Is it quiet? Safe?

North Main is a large "neighborhood" but not considered a subdivision. I think it is a very nice community to live personally. What part of North Main are the homes located?

Well, the listings on Parkside and Summit are way too expensive for me, but there are a couple of homes on Arcadia and West Hillcrest that are in the $150-$170 price range. The MLS # are 1142801 and 1136956.

As much as I think about living in the country on a couple of acres, I know that I'd feel very isolated, so living near the city might be better for me.
