Interesting comments. It says alot to me about the people in Greenville. Mostly their attitude is meh, whatever, who cares. You asked where I live. In the 6th largest city in America, Phoenix area. If there were 2 entire families in one of our burbs who died in a plane crash, it would have been on the news for several days and would have precipitated car washes, garage sales, and other fund raising activities which would have raised ALOT of money for the families and relatives. It isn't for me to start a paypal fund. Why don't you start something there??? And here, it wouldn't matter if we knew them or not. There, surely in your community, alot of people knew them. I am amazed at some of the attitudes there.....

I am amazed by this post, so thoughtless.
First, usually you raise money for surviving family members. They all died.
This has been in the news a lot, with bio's of the family members, rememberances, etc. Thousands showed up for the services held. Vigils have been held. Prayers and silence before all sorts of summer events, with children and friends openly weeping and mourning. Friends being there for each other in person, in prayer, in thought with loving kindness.
And you want to judge an entire community, based on ignorance from so far away, so soon? Based on a few posts on a stupid Internet forum?
You should be ashamed of what you wrote. Pure. Thoughtless. Ignorance.
People deal with tragic death and sorrow how they choose, as do communities. Your community isn't this one, and holding a car wash right now seems, well, like a tacky idea to me. These families sent their kids to the most expensive school in the area, and were on a privately chartered family trip to Alaska. And they are all dead. A few hundred dollars isn't really an important consideration right now.
I'd suggest you just drop the subject entirely on here.
You asked where I live. In the 6th largest city in America, Phoenix area....
Why in the world are you trolling on GVL's forum anyway?! You are just creating drama with this post! You have no idea what is being done locally and all over the state for these families. Just because nothing is being mentioned on CD does not mean the families have been forgotten. Please go away! You're just annoying us.

And who are you to sit in Phoenix not watching our local news and then come in here and start controversy over something you couldn't possibly know anything about? If you viewed our local news affiliates online services you'd see just how wrong you are. Greenville is a very caring and supporting community to those in need and I have witnessed that generosity first hand.
"It is human nature to avoid thinking about death, yet death is ultimately unavoidable and may happen at any moment in time regardless of our actions to remain alive. I want to achieve the greatest enjoyment in life today, because I may be dead tomorrow. I may die while sleeping tonight or while traveling to the grocery store this afternoon, but I will not travel to one of the most amazing places in the U.S. because I am afraid of death."
How can we sincerely offer comfort to the affected families and their close friends? We can say "I'll give any amount of money or donate my possessions, time, and abilities to help you through this moment of intense grief," but we need to know the contact information of the support system.
If anyone knows where to send money or aid to the grieving extended families, please share the contact information with everyone. Thank you!
Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes is handling all services of the Antonakos family - here is this family's obituary (from the McAfee website). Also noted there: "Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605; Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607; Christ Church Episcopal, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601; or the Charity of One's Choice."
As for the McManus family - it's not clear as to specific services or the family's wishes. In fact, WYFF reported last night that the McManus family desired to keep affairs private. However, upon a quick web search, McSwain-Evans (Newberry, SC) funeral home may be handling their services - here is the dedicated McManus page. Noted there: "Memorial gifts may be made in the McManus name to the USC School of Medicine Greenville Scholarship Fund (Office of Philanthropy and Partnership, 300 E McBee Ave, Ste 200, Greenville, SC 29601), South Carolina Donate Life or the Ronald McDonald House."
Money in this instant is only a vehicle to make those grieving feel better. Neither the Antonakos or McManus families need money. They need love, understanding and peace. Money will not fill the hearts of empty. Now please stop petty arguments, admonishing each other for what the other did or didn't do.
