Sites adjacent to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena or the former Greenville Transit Authority property on Augusta Street near Fluor Field stadium are receiving public mention. TD Convention Center would not close as it would provide expansive space for boat shows, camping and recreational vehicle shows, etc.

The first is great for access and the second is great to boost the West End even further. I worry about traffic if they choose beside the baseball field. Maybe they could offer direct trolley rides from county square if they went with that location, to help ease traffic/parking.
Still seems like a waste of money. Didnt they just renovate TD? Just build a hotel there and revitalize the area, which needs it anyway. And TD to Bilo Center is only 3 miles anyway, right on 385.
Not like TD is at Donaldson Airport or Fountain Inn or somewhere. Location is fine where it is imo.

You don't get it. People going to conventions like to walk around the area to shops, restaurants and attractions (such as our downtown parks). Only downtown can deliver that.

If I want to produce a small show with exhibition space that is not expansive as TD Convention Center, I would prefer a smaller convention center. I would not want to pay more for space I am not using.
North Pleasantburg Drive is still years away from being revitalized. It does not have the retail, dining and lodging downtown has.
Instead of funding extensions of the Swamp Rabbit Trail and unnecessary road configurations, it would be nice to connect TD Convention Center to downtown and any point southeast to Verdae, Mauldin and Simpsonville with rapid transit.

Then they shouldve put it downtown to begin with. Why spend money renovating just to turn it around and dump it? Its the largest in SC, bigger than the great CC's in Myrtle Beach and North Charleston. They should stick with investing in it. If its survived this long then obviously conventioners havent cared enough about not having immediate shops.
Greenvilles so dense, just go 3 miles in any direction and you have plenty of attractions and shops. Finding a hotel to build adjacent to TD is alot smarter.
There were plans for a large hotel behind the former Dragon Den retail center on North Pleasantburg Drive 15 years ago. It would have been nice if that went through.

I believe when TD was built, Downtown Greenville was nowhere near how nice it is today. I imagine when it was built most things were moving to the suburbs and even the best of city-planners never imagined that downtowns across the nation would make a comeback as strong as they have. I have no stance on the convention center as of now, it would be nice to have an interconnected type of facitiliy meaning TD on Pleasantburg would be part of the new convention center. Nonetheless, TD will need to be downsized if this facility is to move forward.
