Default New property tax info out

Hey,

I thought I would update everyone in the area that Greenville County has updated the new tax payments. There is always alot of ?'s regarding specific information about how much. I thought I would throw it out there for people looking at the area. My house, Greenville county and Mauldin city, 1900 sq ft, will now pay $893. in taxes on my house.

I do not live there but we are looking at houses in the Greer area around $160-180K. What do you think my taxes would be there?

Greer is in both Greenville and Spartanburg counties; depends which county you buy in. Traditionally Spartanburg is cheaper.

When you are looking at houses you will need to ask if the tax rate is based on old or new rates.

Am new to the area (as of September), and we bought new construction which we'll pay property tax on the land for '07, then land and dwelling for '08. My question is when did the school elements get removed out of the mix? Is it for '07 taxes? Also, I know my house will be assesed and that assesment, along with the 4% and the millage rate will be my tax for '08. I assume, that I too will be able to take advantage of the school components being removed (and therefore a lower millage rate). Can someone confirm? Thanks.....

Yes, if it is Greenville County. You can check on the Greenville County website to see the exact dollar amount you will have to pay for 2008. I also saw an article in the paper yesterday stating that tax bills were mailed out today, so you should seem them soon. School tax portion of the property tax were removed.

The sales tax increase went into effect a few months ago. Beginning Nov. 1 food tax was axed.

In Mauldin I have an assessed value of $122,000 and a tax of $790 which is $325 less than last year.

When you look it up online it is stated as 2007 tax. You can look back over the years too.

Unfortunately I can't look back at previous years since it's new construction. In addition, I think the millage rate differs each year based on the twp's needs, so I suppose I'll just have to wait until sometime next year.

Default Ready for this one folks?

Ok, I have to say this so that if there is anyone who thinks G'vl area taxes are getting too much, I just returned to Upstate NY (eastern). An 1800sq ft house in an area just like Mauldin will cost you 250K - 300K for an average model. Nothing overly fancy. Taxes?.....5-6K/year. Yes, thats right --- five thousand dollars per year. Want more than 1/4 acre??? how about an acre or two? I have seen up to 8-10K/yr. And unless you are situated with a long time job in Government you will get less/hour here than you would for the same exact job there in Greenville.

I am seriously wondering what got into me and why I came back. Maybe I was smoking some of that hookah.. No, really, I have to be here for now but this is one of the worst income/cost of living ratio's in the country

You can look at comps in the area. Just find the address and you can look them up.

Yea school tax removed and added back to your personal property tax on your vehicle....Take it out of one pocket not the other...What a joke....1,300.00 per year for a new pickup truck...SC needs to give the tax collectors guns they can hold on you so they would feel better and you would at least know they were robbing you

Lead the sheep....
