Default Parking in the street in subdivisions:

is this allowed where you live? just out of curiosity, if you live in a cookie cutter neighborhood where it is high density, so your nieghbors park in their drivways or do many of them park in the street as well as their driveways?

this is a pet peeve of mine, as i live in fla, in a "cookie cutter" neighborhood (high density too) and ppl just park in the street and some dont even use thier entire driveways... arent driveways used for parking, or am i old fashioned?

the reason i came to this forum to ask the question is because i am familar with greenville, and it's a nice town. i used to live in nc... and ponder moving back up that way someday, possibly to greenville.

thx.

Your post surprises me. I always thought we couldn't park on the street, since I also live in Florida. I live in a dumpy duplex and nobody in the neighborhood ever parks on the street, although some people park up on the lawn! Until a few weeks ago (they moved) my next door neighbor had several relatives living with them and they parked everywhere but the street. I finally had to complain and they began using an empty lot down the street. They were very nice people, but they just lived differently I guess.

That's a pet peeve of mine also....the neighborhood i live in here in Savannah is pretty high in density. If coming from the main road it's quicker to cut thru the neighborhood instead of basically adding a mile and 3 minutes skimming around the edge of it [longer if school is getting out]. It irks me because people are constantly parking in the road and not using their driveways and it baffles me. The ones that irk me the most are the people who park in the road on the blind corners...Then people have to maneuver like on an obsticle course just to get home safely. Then it's one area where for about 15 houses at least 1 car is in the road at peak times and you have to use a buddy system to get thru. I've had to back up so cars can get thru before and the guy got so upset that after he got thru...he pulled on the side road and began to approach a house where were the family were sitting in the garage and i pull over and went there also. The family was just watching people not able to get around....laughing about it....they had a 2 car garage they sat in that was full of space....A drive way large enough to fit 4 cars....yet they had 4 cars parked in the road....WTF..... I've been her a year and not once have i left the neighborhood and not had to wait for a car to pass so i can whip around a parked car. The HOA won't even do anything about it...they said it's their right and it's legal as long as the car isn't sitting their 5 days straight disabled. I can't stand it....it makes me want to buy an old run down car and side swipe each car in the neighborhood that is in the wrong and they have an empty driveway! I know that's wrong, but that might get them to get out the road. ]

I live in greenville, haven't really seen this too much in the subd. here, but I know what you mean, my fiance's mother lives in one of those and EVERYONE parks on the street, its so hard to even back out of your driveway, what a pain!

Well in my subdivision you aren't supposed to park on the street overnight but they do, especially if they have teens and short drives. My driveway is such that I can park every car without having to move a one to get out. It depends on the covenants and if they are enforced.

My subdivision doesn't allow residents to park on the street. You can however get away with it occasionally. Some of the driveways here are barely long enough to fit one car length in them and it can cause problems for some people.

I don't see any problem with parking on the street if its allowed. Where its not allowed it should be allowed too. That obstacle course of cars slows people down and makes it safer for everyone.

Unless you have small children running around (like my neighborhood). It's virtually impossible to see them between the cars. Of course, that's more of a parenting issue, but we won't go there...
Ironically, in some places in FL, it is illegal to park on your lawn. Our driveway is 1-1/2 cars long; with 3 drivers, I have to park in the street. Our next driveway (in SC) will be 300' long; shouldn't have to park in the street anymore!

We are trying to sell our home in FL and to me it looks so unkept with cars on the lawn.I would rather see the cars in the street or have some people clean out their garage and put there cars where they belong.
