BPS would be eliminating a competitor and gaining stores in areas they currently do not operate. Good move for them if this goes through. Bad news for this development.

Why could Cabela's, the lone major competitor to Bass Pro Shops, consider selling out to it?

Gander Mountain is also a competitor to BPS. Gander has 148 stores in 26 states compared to Cabela's with 50 stores but in more states.

Gander Mountain operates on a tier lower than Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's and a tier higher than Academy Sports and Outdoors and Dick's Sporting Goods.

I was told this week that the parking lot for the Highway 101 BPS site did not perc and it is a costly issue to resolve. I guess that means a smaller development could happen there by someone else maybe if that's true?

Gander Mtn still targets the same "outdoor" customer as the other two. Plus they have been much more aggressive in the Carolina's than the other two. Academy and Dick's target different customers.

Comparing prices on websites between the three, they are all very similar.

I understand BMW is concerned about added traffic and is doing all they can to stop this project. I bet they win.

Its funny how people always start complaining about added traffic when these projects are built. They did the same thing over Cabela's when it was announced. People were saying it was going to be total gridlock,To be honest I am on that stretch of Woodruff about every weekday and I just don't see much difference since Cabela's arrived. I don't think it is generating near the traffic everyone thought it would.

Now we are beginning to see why this BPS project seems to be on hold. If indeed BMW is trying to block it, and a potential acquisition of Cabelaś, it may not ever happen. Remains to be seen. But if BPS acquires Cabelaś, then you may end up with a BPS store at Magnolia afterall.
